Hi all. I've been lurking around the forums for quite some time and I realised it's about time I started posting. To skip the formalities of the "Hi, I'm new .... " Here goes with my first post. After doing IM for some time (1 year-ish), the most important lesson I've realised: Staying focused on just ONE thing before moving on to the next. If I had a time machine, I'd definitely go back 1 year in the past and whack myself silly with this piece of information. There's too much information out there on the Internet, just waiting to be discovered. This is known as the "Shiny Object Syndrome" Focus isn't just a word. It's the ability to keep your mind on what you want to accomplish so you will be able to ignore any obstacles along the way. For example - When I started out, I started off with niche sites. 1 week later, I discovered PPC, then, I discovered Youtube marketing, then I discovered flipping websites. What I SHOULD have done (and you should too, if you were in my position): Niche sites.. Keyword research.. Backlinks.. Content writing.. Adsense.. etc. You get the point. Once you've developed an aspect of IM, then you can start multi-tasking and moving on to another aspect and earn some decent money. - Sophia
Hey Sophia and welcome to the forums, hope you will continue to find interesting and useful information Focus is definitely something to be considered and after so many years I still find myself dispersing my focus on multiple things at once. I guess multitasking really gets the best of me Still, I think that it depends on the line of work you are in, sometimes multitasking is really necessary and people who are able to embrace it would not suffer that much from the loss of focus. But if you want to succeed with your own business the best tactic would be take it one step at a time.
Sophia, Great post, but I would change one thing. You should only focus on one system at a time, not a single item. You need to get the basic components of your business setup and running, items like: Blog / Website Autoresponder (Lead capture system) Sales Funnel Once those are in place, then you focus on traffic generation systems, which is the ideal place to get "singly" focused while you perfect your craft. Learn YouTube marketing thoroughly, before moving on to PPC. Learn SEO completely (yes, it is a constantly changing topic), before you switch to Forum Marketing. In the end, you want to put all of the traffic generation ideas together, but learn to do each one well before you move to the next one. But, do not start driving traffic until you have those 3 core pieces in place. You need somewhere for them to land. You need a way to capture the lead. You need a way to sell, even if it is someone else's funnel you choose to use. Get those three elements up and running, then get crazy focused on learning traffic generation.
Hey Sophie, great way to introduce yourself. You are going to learn various new things on this forum.
Love that expression... "whack myself silly", hehehe! Totally agree, by the way. I, too, am guilty of piffling around with far too many things at the same time. It's a hard lesson to learn, but an essential one. Great first post!
Great post and welcome to the Forum I think everyone that is still searching for ways to generate an online income are guilty of to much procrastination and finding fun ways to distract themselves. To make it big in the online industry it definitely needs focus, My most successful websites worked because I put in the time and effort to grow them and then they stopped because I began focusing on other things. So yeah Always focus on what you want to achieve, plan the steps you need to undertake to achieve the goal, and then follow them step by step. No point ever building anything without having the end in sights Good luck
