Stolen content tripping duplicte content filters

I have been trying to figure out a bunch of drops in the SERPS. Although I still have quite a few top 5s, many of my keywords have dropped from top 5 to top 150 or worse.

Duplicate content seems to be the culprit. Copyscape.com has identified some of the culprits. Found 2 sites that had copied my content.

Copyscape also identified some other sites, but my content on these sites is not visible. The content seems to be re-directed. One of the sites that it pointed to is: www.insiderscripts.com/targetedvisitor/index.htm

    This product promises:
    >> No need to write your own web content. Get a reliable content supply (save time)
    >> Create thousands webpage with fresh contents automatically (save time)
    >> Re-direct the visitors to any destination URL (convenience)

It looks like this product goes around stealing content. The big problem occurs when the Search Engines identifies your content as duplicate.

    Any advice?

Report them to Google. Send them legal gobbledigook type letters (search for standard ones yuo may use) threatening this that and the other. Also notify the host of the site that their user is breaking the law. They will shut them down pretty quick.

E-mail people who redirect to you with 302 redirects. They often don't realize the destructive nature of their actions.

Google will not do anything without a court order. The best thing you can do is contact their hosting company and report them for stealing your content. According to the DMCA the hosting company could get in trouble for allowing the use of copyrighted material being used and posted by a website they host.

I run in to this all the time in real estate. LOL I found one person who downloaded over 2000 pages of material and created a new website with it. Its a major problem in real estqte to have others steal content, so I am use to dealing with this and the routes that need to be taken to have it removed. Best of Luck!

I am having tracking down one website. No email address on site. No whois info. They are a subdomain of GB.com (I am assuming Great Britain) I cannot find the source. Does anyone know how these subdomains are organized?

    GoogleGuy Says: [Link to quote]
The "&filter=0" just shows all pages, even pages that appear to be duplicates. Normally if there are pages that appear to be duplicates, we try to pick the best one to show (but no heuristic can be perfect--it's like having two people claiming to own the same essay).

If you're seeing one of your own pages listed as a duplicate (e.g. domain.com/index.html shows up instead of www.domain.com/index.html), I wouldn't worry very much. That page should still appear in searches, and probably we can make it into the canonical version over time.

If someone else has copied your page, then you should try to solve the issue with them. In the worst case, you could escalate it to assert your ownership of your page.

This is not really a Google issue, other than the fact that "&filter=0" might allow you to find someone who copied your page. Even if we removed the other person's page (which we wouldn't do without a correct DMCA request, because we can't tell who really owns the page), you could still have the same problem with the other person's page showing up in other search engines.

So: Google tries to be the best reflection of the web that we can, but if someone has copied your page, that's a copyright issue, and not a spam issue. I encourage you to work with the other person to resolve the issue, because even if you did a DMCA request with Google, you'd still have to worry about those pages showing up on other search engines.

I just looked over this site and it amazes me that anyone would shell out good money for something so sleasy and questionable. I would think the redirect would be a dead giveaway to the SE's that the page is bogus unless maybe it's a 301 or 302 instead of a metarefresh.

Can someone please explain to me (sorry, I'm blonde) what exactly this software does?
    >> No need to write your own web content. Get a reliable content supply (save time) - Are they 'stealing' content?
    >> Create thousands webpage with fresh contents automatically (save time) - ok, this I understand.
    >> Re-direct the visitors to any destination URL (convenience) - Is this just a redirect? And how does this help? If they steal someones content on Wombats, the visitor lands on their 'Wombat' page and redirects them to another page about 'Dingbats' how does this help if the visitor is NAFI about the "Dingbats" he was just directed to?

Sorry if these questions are very stupid, but I'd like to understand.

Ahh, I despise this kind of thing. I take time, effort, sweat and blood to write original content for customers and then people use methods like this on such a frighteningly regular basis.

I have had google remove other site's pages that were duplicates of mine. All you have to do is prove to them that it was your content first and that it was copyrighted. You have to fax them the information, then they review your request and if valid they remove the offending page from the index.
