I made a new website recently and it was put at number 6 on google for the keyword I was targeting. But then it got put down to page 6. I couldn't figure why it happened. I ran my site through copyscape and it came up with a social bookmarking site that had a bookmark to a blog that had copied and pasted all of my sites content. The blog itself wasn't indexed in google but they had used a large part of the content for the description of the bookmark and that was indexed. The date of the bookmark posting is the same date that my site ranking dropped the 6 pages. Another of my sites just dropped to page 8 and I discovered someone had copied and pasted that too to a blog and then social bookmarked it. So I was wondering if a site has a higher ranking than another site, does it get credited for the content? I read a theory similar to this in the forum somewhere, and am starting to think its true.
hmm its weird if your site is the one with the original cntent i dont think this could have been the only reason for your rank loss and depends on the social book mark site too
Well, you will need to get more high quality backlinks to your website or else this will happen often and you'll waste all your time chasing after offenders. Try submitting your RSS feed to a few dofollow RSS directories and bookmarking your posts on the bookmarking sites you find them being linkjacked at... I think it may be more effective for you in the long run if you try to outrank the various sploggers and content thieves who are out there. Most of the scrapers only republish to throw-away domains, its unlikely that you'll be up against any really authoritative sites.
there is no chance that this is why your site has dropped, new sites do drop in rankings if link building doesnt carry on! if this was the case all the seos in the world would go around destroying sites of competitors and google know this
I have seen this happen before. First, Google frequently gives new sites a temporary high ranking for a few search phrases. This sometimes disappears after a few weeks. Several years ago, this was quite normal and very frustrating for site owners. Second, the concern about the stolen content is real. Search engines do not always know which site has the original content. The web page with the most links leading to it is frequently considered to be the original. That is why Matt Cutts advises you to include links to the original content when an article is syndicated or is posted on an article site. I would first try to contact the site owner and threaten to report them to Google, Yahoo and MSN for DMCA violations. Give them 24 hours to remove the stolen content. This has worked for me several times. If they do not respond, follow through and report them. It is difficult to determine if there are other factors involved in your loss of rank positions. The best thing to do at this point is to deal with the issues you are aware of. By the way, I learned several years ago that the best way to have your content stolen is to post links to your sites on Digitial Point. While most users have good intentions, this forum attracts more scammers and pirates than any other forum I have seen. If you want to protect your content, do not post your links here. If you want to play with fire, you will eventually get burned.
Anyone know where there's an up to date list of dofollow RSS directories? If so, please pass it along.
Here is the list of some imporant RSS directories sorted with PR: newsniche.com/rss-directories-and-submission.php
Yea..it got nothing to do with someone stealing your content. If by stealing content will create a drop in ranking, you will see lots of sabotage around. Just focus on your link building and it will be fine and stop worrying about what others is doing to your content.
If the site was mirrored by another webmaster I guess that is the reason why your site is falling down.. you should know everything about the site you are suspecting and if you found that they really did the copying of your site make a move. Sometimes the result of this evil works will give them more benefits than the original. There is a possibilities that your site will gain the bad if you will not do some thing as soon as possible. By the way thanks for the copyscape.com a good seo resource ^_^
this will only happen if your site was up before the site that has all your information, Google could not, and would not peanalise a site for having content so good, that people rip it off! It will be the site that stole the content that gets peanalised as Google already knows what it has and hasnt indexed. I suggest this is an effect that happens to most new sites, the rank well, and then they get dropped if you dont carry on building links
