Stolen Articles

Just discovered that all the articles on one my websites had been completely regurgitated word for word on another website that was claiming them as their own. Even the directory structure of my website was stolen. The cheek of some people, they don't have two brain cells to rub together

Argh, I hate that sh*t - someone did that to an essay a friend wrote on one of my websites once, and he was so damn nice about it - I would've been on them like a ton of bricks, he let them keep it up with a citation.

    What have you done?

Easy... do a whois is check, find out who their ISP is. Send a note to them letting them know that the site is violating your copyright and you are seeking legal counseling. They will get shut down in a few hours.

I have sent an email to the offending party so I'm looking forward to the response. What's worse is that I suspect it was a member of my forum  Needless to say I have made sure that member won't be posting again.

    Good advice.

I've had the same happen to me on both my own and my clients' sites. You should also email Google and let them know about the duplicate content. They can easily verify the correct author and they can then penalize the offending site with a ban; they take such egregious copyright violations seriously.

The hosting company is always a great choice. I had to do that a couple of times with one ex-partner who kept using my name in hopes of promoting her business

Cool. It's a good thing when the offending party doesn't put up a fight. When you're wrong, you're wrong, and putting up a fight when you know you're wrong is the most childish thing one can do.

Glad it worked out for ya'.

Email works because sometimes the owner of the site isnt aware of the offending copyright. On my site i try my best to ensure original work but i have so many people who contribute it is often hard to check every submission extensively. So I welcome emails making me aware of any copyright infringement.
