You don't "need" reciprocal links... what you do NEED is links from other sites to your site. It's most often the easiest option to get incoming links by exchanging links with other relevant sites (reciprocal linking).

However if you provide a great service/content then your visitors will be bound to link to your site on their own.

This is a wonderful forum for SEO.

    1. what would you say is the % contribution of reciprocal links or link exchange to Google PR ?
    2. If you link exchange, is it more valuable to focus on recieving inbound links from highest PR sites?
    3. Will higher PR sites grant link exchange to zero PR shopping sites? if so which ones?

One way links are the best and have the biggest impact on your rankings but if you are not able to generate one way links then just go with reciprocal linking.

    1. PR is related to the quality of incoming links. The higher the PR of your incoming links, the higher will be your PR.

    2. Yes.

    3. It depends. In general, no webmaster with high PR site will link to a new site unless they are selling links or the new site is truely useful to link up.

    Hope it helps.

Ya but if they provide quality content then many of them give them a backlink.

PR does not matter in getting good results from Google all my sites have PR greater than 3 but i donot earn more than $0.1 a day and google does not rank me high for certain keyword just because i have a PR 5 site. in the process of building links to your sites you end up getting a good google PR that's it. Links guide search engines ang page rank does not matter in SERPS

    1. All links, regardless of what kind, transfer PR IF the link is indexed.

    2. No it is not. It is most valuable to receive links from relevant sources regardless of PR. The PR you can see, toolbar PR, is a glimpse into the past.

    3. Depends on how smart they are. Smart webmasters know there are far more important things to consider than PR when it comes to link exchanges.

Focus on content, usability, relevance when looking to submit or exhange links.

Try doing a search for a list of directories.
