    Directory submission is the basic promotional activity and its effective also so you can't leave it.

    I think directories are important to a site. the big directories such as DMOZ, BOTW,Yahoo and Joe Ant to name a few. I think Google gives sites that are listed in directories like these more authority.

    Yes, the big directories are effective. The millions of smaller ones, much less so (if at all).
