It will always be important for link building. A lot of directories are having quality, just like botw, yahoo directory and dmoz. Also other are having also effect over the SERP and backlinks, even if it is small
Directory submission is good for increasing page rank but we are not getting page rank now a days, I think algorithm is changed.
Directories are a complete waste of time. Their link value is worth almost less than a blog comment. Don't bother.
Agree with pjam all this submitting rubbish submit to this = SEO what a joke. Yeh its a waste of you time, do the big ones Yahoo, BOTW, DMOZ etc and thats it. Do some proper SEO link building like Guest Posting, Link Baits, somthing clever like WP Plugin development, talking to people and working out some deals etc. All this if I submitt to 100000000 directorys etc ill get better SERPS etc is a load of tosh and NOT SEO Firespin
Any SEO company or service that even mentions directories (outside of article directories) as a valid source for promotion is a complete red flag that they have no idea what they are doing.
directories are very much important for link building. but it has to be quality site. with a high PR. there are thousands of directories but a few of them have good quality. i think the name of the best directories have already been told!. try them with your site link and i am sure that you will get good benefit in a few weeks.
Link is a link no matter the type or quality they are. Even link from web directory is less important than it used to be but it still help if you were selective enough. You may need to prepare budget to pay for "editorial fees" for those high editorial directories. Most of them are not guarantee for inclusion even you paid them. They just take a look and if your site doesn't seem fit then you may got a refund.
One of the problem with good quality directories is that you go to pay. Some of those directory is not cheap. For free directory, they take LONG TIME to review and the requirement is tougher than pay editorial.
In my opinion, DS is not so much important now a days. But we can't stop directory submission of our sites. Don't waste too much time in DS, only submit your sites in high PR sites then it will give you benefit.
My thoughts exactly , most dont get crawled too deeply anyway. I have half a dozen PR4 directories and I cant find many backlinks from them to any on my other sites except the main page footer links.. And these are old established PR4 sites that get a google bot visit every day , the multitude of rubbish PR0 directories you get offered from most of the submission companies will be far worse.. Concentrate on quality..
