Some ads i'm trying to run are Playing cards Learn how to use playing cards Guide to playing poker Answering all your poker questions and these are being rejected due to being gambling related, oh come on, that's like banning "paris hilton" because it's related to porno, your being a bit OTT here...
I personally kinda agree that this is related to poker because we are seo guys here. your website might not have gambling, but it is very related to those. many of the COOP guys dont want to be related to gambling. paris hilton, relates me to famous people, and a hotel (obviously?) so its not related to porn in google. just that. I would judge it that way. I got a trading card game. I wouldnt like poker ads either no offense.
Gambling, Drugs, and Adult all seem to be collectively frowned upon from a site which is not themed that way. It could be that people just don't want to link to them. (Which I'd rather not have poker ad's running on my sonogram web site). It could also be that the SE's frown upon them. (I haven't seen any evidence, but I haven't ever looked for any). Links to those three topics can certainly put you on some censorship lists though and reduce your audience. (things like NetNanny, etc.)
It's a bit of a weird one though. Saying Poker equals Gambling just because it's a popular gambling game would then be the same as not allowing horse or dog related ads in the network. Similar amounts of money are being gamled on those as well. It must because because of the bad name those sites have given themselves, spamming and plastering their name everywhere...
Yup. I've got about 50 trashed emails that have some variation of online poker, play poker, texas holdem in them that I've gotten in the last day or so letting me know that some spammer is helpfully leaving a bit of blog spam for me...
You aren't the guy who has been blog spamming me Nick0r? Are you? I've been getting poker blog spam too.
you know, I felt bad after posting that. The comment was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but when I re-read it it just looks rude. Sorry.
It's getting to be a pain in the rear end trying to be a legitimate webmaster in the gambling industry. Because of over generalisations we all get lumped with the tag spammers etc. Just because some people spam a product/service it shouldn't equate to the product/service being labelled as unethical, wrong etc. If that was the case then Adsense, eBay and the whole software industry are all the same. The amount of spam I get for these products/services rates about the same volume wise as gambling spam I receive. And while I'm going out on a limb, will any alcohol related business eventually be banned from all directories, both online and offline? This product damages individuals, families and is a drain on health systems just like gambling. Just an opinion and not looking for an argument. Just venting a bit...
I don't know... I gamble, I drink, I ebay, I've had my share of prozac. Don't tell anyone, but I've been to one or two adult sites in my lifetime as well. I thought that's the kind of stuff made me an american. You can't run for president without having done all that stuff (well, our President doesn't have to be an e-bay-er).
The only spam I see for ebay is to tell my account is in danger. I get all kinds of nasty spam for gambling (I do gamble, btw) I have sex too but this doesn't mean I wanna get spammed with porn ads. It's a turnoff. As far as alcohol goes: and this is coming from a person who has been in recovery since 1989 - This doesn't bother me. I worked as a waitress and bartender throughout the recovering and sold wine; stayed up on wine - except to drink it. I have no problem with alchol sites whether dealing with drinking or the recovery end of it. Heck; I don't even have problems with wacky weed sites. Smell that smell!
I agree with you jarvi, if they want to ban some gambling sites at least ban the people who make money from it, like the poker services... not informational sites... that's lame
