Stickies or Article Page

I know there is an FAQ/Rules, but this forum is constantly flooded with the same posts over and over again. Why not make a sticky or article that describes the content of the FAQ which is mostly rules, but also include common questions, etc. that aren't listed. It isn't your (the moderators and administrators) duty to answer the same questions over and over again.

My personal opinion is that users are no more likely to read the sticky than the FAQ. :( I know it is frustrating seeing same thing over and over.

from my experience the best way to get users to read the rules is to send a PM when they join.

Yes, but after getting a lot of PMs from registering on multiple websites, I usually think they are welcome letters and don't read them. O well, it is just annoying to see so many pointless threads. Infractions are always an option, they will read the rules then. :D

you can always title the PM in a specific way that may grab their attention.

and not everyone registers to tons of forums. not to mention a lot don't even have welcome pm's. it's one of the best options, in my opinion. sure, infractions work, but preventing something from happening that requires an infraction in the first place is best.

We should require a $200 deposit when they sign up, give them a week during which they can't post, then they have to do an exam on all the FAQ points and if they pass, they get half their deposit back and they can post. If after ten active days or 100 posts they've not violated the FAQ, they get the other half back.

    That would also deter spam.

It sounds like a good idea but, I think this won't help either. I mean even if people read it before registering, after like 50 posts or so, some of them will still come up with questions like "What is that green square?", "Why did I get an infraction?" etc. and I doubt that they will go back to their first PM to check that out.

T0PS3O is being mean as usual :D

cool lol exams to filter spammers and members who dont read FAQ :) DP have many rules then other forums so it takes little time for new members i think. This days lot of memebrs asking for stick threads if u make any sticky and see number of views for that thread we can know how many guys really like to read stick threads then FAQ.

My obversation: There is a sticky in solicitations and announcements and it has not detered messages like, "Submitted mine, thanks." and "You have a PM."

I didn't mean use that exclusively. of course the rules / faq should be available elsewhere as well, the PM is just a way to get them to pay attention to it initially.

A Digg like system that matches the about-to-be-submitted new thread with the past ones and the FAQ and then flagging if it's likely to be dupe should do the same trick a lot more efficiently than any suggestion I've ever seen.

PMs, Stickies, FAQs all rely on bothering all members just to cover the few who can't be asked to do their 5 minutes worth of homework. Digg's system only affects those few, leaving the good members alone.

I think the FAQ/Rules should be expanded. Reputation is not even mentioned.

But that doesn't mean that it hasn't stopped some people from doing it.

If the faq was indepth and answered many commonly asked questions, whenever a common question was asked, members could simply provide the link to the faq. If this was done alot, one would be bound to come across the faq sooner or later.
