Here is a thought... how about some sticky posts... I have been on DP for a few weeks now and I see the same quesions come up again and again, and if we had a sticky post for each question, with the best answers and tips, would save the noobs time + perevent flaming. The person who starts the post could keep the first post edited so it has the most up-to-date info on the subject. DP admin person would need to stick them, and let the first poster keep editing.. but worth it I thinks Topics could be: So your account has been disabled... don't panic! Advice for the banned, what steps to take to get back on, what alternatives are out there. Stats updating slow? Figures not matching up. Telling people that sometimes it is slow, and that it gets out of sync, it is normal, do not panic. People can post here when they get worried their stats are not updating. That time of month again. A thread for posting the monthly "anyone got payment in progress -> I got payment in progress -> anyone been paid -> how long to cheques take" threads.. it could just be added to each month instead of starting 2 or 3 new ones. Things that you shold NOT do. People talk about whats good to do, but if we posted about the common things we see people do that are either against the TOS or are just going to halm their CTR etc.. would help others not make the same mistakes. Anyone got any more ideas?
The problem is you could end up with the first page of any forum as stickies if you wanted to cover all topics.
Not at all, just make a F.A.Q. page at the website, which is about all the different subjects. Then add 1 sticky to all topics and say: Search before Ask, or something like that, and let them search through your HUGE F.A.Q.!!!!
Exactly my point... and do you think newbies would read it either? There is a link to it from every page in the forum at the top too.
I can work on a mod_rewrite FAQ for the Apache board, if this sticky thing occures. People ask how to change URLs all the time!! It could be my restitution for all the ahem... 'shameless behavior' I've done in the past and ahem... future!!! Edit: When ever some one askes, we can simple give them the link to the FAQ for there post. Then they can let us know if they can't get XXXX working and we then help them.
exactly my point. This way we don't have to type everything over again, we can just point them to something similar!
There is a FAQ? If we could expand the FAQ, to include these sort of questions, then other members could just link people to them when they post.. But that does not stop people posting in the first place... and that was my whole point... maybe 1 sticky post in the adSense forum, that has all the topics listed and links to them in the FAQ? I did not know there was a FAQ section, but if there was a sticky in the adSense forum, that linked to it, and was locked, that would have made me read it.
Just a sticky with the info, would be enough, and not locked if it may need to be updated in the future. A few FAQ stickies being at the top of boards with repeated questions might be better than having 30 extra FAQ links in the FAQ section, AND a sticky linking to the FAQ. One click and you are at the FAQ, twice as fast as being in the FAQ section. Instead of 1. Click link to sticky thread. 2. Click link to FAQ in FAQ section. You click the thread link and you're at the FAQ. Remember, many of us are lazy!!!
I thought of it when someone posted they had been banned on WW, and the 2nd person to reply to them just said Not what you want to read when your adSense world comes to an end.. so a sticky post on what to do and what not to do when banned would be nice..
What!! You've never seen him here??!!! He's #9 on the member list in post counts, 3,172 posts. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=756
I think leave it all as is, newbs end up having to read lots of old posts..you end up finding out alot more that way and probably alot of useful stuff you never would have thought of. Also, things change rapidly, who is going to keep making sure all that info is not out of date ? Also, more questions = more threads, more posts, more content, more links, more involvement, more AS, more serps, more $.
I hate boards with 50 stickys. Its one of my pet peeves. Plus how many times do we get - "How do I get a signature". Thats in the FAQ yet it still gets posted 100 times.
