    Hello there fellow DPers,

As the title suggests, this thread is regarding stereotypes....of Saudis (people of Saudi Arabia :p)
THIS IS IN NO WAY GOING TO INSULT ANY RELIGION OR ANY PEOPLE

its just that...I have lived in the middle East and I KNOW what saudis are like, and trust me, I was THIS SURPRISED:eek: cuz most of us have a tendency of creating weird stereotypes about them. As a matter of FACT- recently some one posted in some forum asking 'Do you go to schools in camels?" and I was - WTF ! ... LOL :D

So if you guys have any stereotypes about them, share it here, and I will try to correct you (probably through some pictures) + it'd be fun to read the funny question like the aforementioned one :p

ps: hope this does not conflict with any rules of the forum, if so please shut this thread down.

pps: Please don't attack the religion (!) or the culture (!!)

that is absolutely right. No theatres and No alcohol (obviously you could find alcohol at some places illegally)
Although You would be surprised to know that Kingdom Of Bahrain which is a neighboring country is connected to ksa (saudi arabia) by a causeway, which is only a 15-20 minute drive. and Bahrain, you could say, is TOTALLY the opposite of KSA...so much so that, in the TOP SIN CITIES OF THE WORLD, Bahrain was ranked 5. And since going to bahrain from ksa ain't a big deal, so its a weekend spot for a lotta saudis. They got SHIT LOADSA THEATRES, GIRLS WALKING IN BARELY ANYTHING in the malls, and too much of everythign else too. Just like the Las Vegas of Saudi Arabia.

STFU! You crossed the line when you said "GIRLS WALKING IN BARELY ANYTHING in the malls"... I was born and raised here.. I have NEVER seen anything I can describe as 'barely anything'... sure ladies wear minis, shorts and tight clothes.

Agreed that there are a lot of prostitutes here.. but we have magazines and movie theaters.. we have night clubs.. our ladies can drive.. we can actually see women... compared to this place Saudi seems like a prison

How's the corruption in SA? How is the enforceability of law? How about if you get into an altercation with someone who's rich and/or has connections - are you gonna get justice?

Ay-yo bro...take it easy. you're probably too naive.
I crossed the line? LOL ... I don't mean to offend you in any way, BUT there MUST be a reason why Bahrain is in the top 10 SIN cities of the world?
and now you do what all do, get angry and call SA a prison... I'd clear that out for any other person out here, but it'd go in vain cuz ur angry at me for ... :/
    never mind .... peace out ... -_-
ps: I am a frequent visitor to Bahrain fyi :)

Bahrain F1 <3 MAGNIFICANT GRAND PRIX

Saudi Arabia seems to me as an area, like the UAE, where the rules apply to the poor and if you have enough cash you live like a king and are exempt from the law for the most part.

Now, I could be totally mistaken, but it just seems that the draconian laws of that area are directed towards the poor and to the political opposition of the leaders.

That all being said, I adore the women from the area (as well as Persians <3)

The dark skin and brilliant eyes, makes me short on breath some times :)

In Saudi Arabia, corruption is VERY VERY minimal. First of all its not a democracy, its a KINGDOM, so thats in favour of the country. (and obviously you don't expect people to quarrel with the kings and/or the prince) so that leaves you only with rich big shots...but 95% of the rich Saudis are highly educated and respect the law/expats/etc.
to answer your question, the enforceability of law is very good here, and usually the innocent gets the justice. BUT for SMALL quarrels or lets say car accidents, the Saudis always have an upper hand...but if you learn arabic...this place RULES.
About the people who have connections- im ASSUMING you would have to compromise if you messed with them...but isn't that what happens everywhere?

Sorry to break it to you, but UAE and KSA are like the two opposite poles. in what sense do you mean they are the same ? justice wise? then you maybe partially right.
but when it comes to society and the norms of these two places, there is a BIG difference.
But if you said UAE and BAHRAIN seem similar to you, you wouldn't be wrong. KSA is different from ALL other Countries. It IS very conservative (which is condemned sometimes) and westernization here is BIG deal for the Saudis. Here, women cant get out of the house with out putting on an abaya (abaya = http://www.twtbit.com/hfGvcY )
and there are a lot of other differences too, you don't have alcohol here, no theatres, etc...like I said...pretty conservative.

Dont call me bro. I was objecting to the comment that you said women walk around in barely nothing. If you were a frequent visitor to Bahrain you'd know that that isn't true one bit.

I already knew Bahrain being on that list... it was big news in Bahrain when the list came out.. we have a lot of prostitutes and brothels here.. no big deal IMO

And Saudi is pretty darn close to a prison isn't it? No freedom to wear what you want, cant protest against anything, the ruling family holds all the power, cant watch a movie, cant find a decent magazine, and prostitution is rampant there too.. just on a hush hush scale.

And the public executions.. *shudder*.. an uncle of mine had to witness the beheading of a girl accused of adultery and prostitution.. it haunts him to this day.

freedom to wear what they want? Yup, no freedom to wear nothing :]
If you are a Bahraini National, you could visitSaudi anytime and check out the malls, especially Mall of Dhahran which is so close to Bahrain. You would find guys and girlswearing quite indescent attire and to prevent that mall from being a medium to flirt and to prevent interaction between guys andgirls, you find security over there too.
No, I would not call it prison....butits a prison for who wanna wear indescentclothes, wish to check out magazines like playboy and any other similar stuff...they got all kinda magazines, cept for R rated ones.
"we have a lot of prostitutes and brothels here.. no big deal IMO" - thats the difference. its a VERY BIG DEAL for muslims and Islam :)
and yes, you are right about brothels in KSA but on hush hush scale, but the government is trying to get rid off 'em, so many aids every week...you cant expect a country to be free of illegal stuff can you? there are loopholes everywhere. and what about Shi'ites (which prevail in bahrain a lot) beating themselves like shit on Muharram 10...how come that doesn't haunt you?
and its not like, every day the government picks any random person and beheads them. First of all, they have a shariah law defined, and fyi, beheading is reduced 90%$ than the oldern days and it is being removed now...but everything take times...how come I havn't heard of beheading for ages now...and people in Bahrain did? oh right....stereotypes
ps: sin cities aren't rated just on the no.of of brothels a country has...so yeah...defend your country all you want, not gonna stop me from saying the truth. (and Im not a saudi anyway)

    Learn to spell.

And prostitution is a big deal for muslims..? Hah thats a laugh considering the fact that most of the pimps and a few of the women are muslims.. and the customers are mostly young Bahrainis.

And yes they willingly beat themselves bloody and the streets get littered with blood on Muharram... are you comparing that with the public beheading and amputation of criminals? Although I agree it has reduced in recent years..

You go ahead and tell the truth about KSA but dont go around telling nonsense about Bahrain... I have no qualms in calling a spade a spade.. I would have no trouble owning up to anything that actually happens in Bahrain. And moreover I'm Indian :D
