You know... I saw that, and thought it was an excellent idea, but when I clicked play, it sounded like total gibberish. I couldn't understand what was said. It might have just been a problem on the site, though, but boy, what a disappointment.

i agree with the disable of any captcha, especially when doing a promotion here on DP or anywhere else.If you look over the submissions, its the best guard against spam and bots, not some random number that it takes some humans several tries to get right

Personally I don't care for the captcha option either. After two cataract surguries and being partially color blind captchas are not my friend.. ;)

I have disabled CAPTCHA on my directories because, contrary to what is claimed about those, it does nothing whatsoever to stop spam. Whether I enabled or disabled it, the result is still the same.

That's the reason I said one can have a simple image validation like 2345, 1234, ie., simple numbers.

Having Rob's spam guard installed + simple image validation works great. :)

Aside from some unpaid Romanian spam, when I rank Zorg Dir with Rob's mod I never got any spam :)

Well it seems captcha has been covered, so I will mention your pricing (just my view) and that is all options are a one time fee, to me this does not make for good ongoing business.

You need to keep paying annual fee's to run your site, but your incoming fees are only dependent on one fee, and i do not see how with more work needed to maintain, run, promote the site as the site grows how this level of service is maintained.

It would be like me placing an ad in the paper then expecting them to run it for life on a one time payment, sooner or later with new ads each week being added the whole thing would become a top heavy monster.

I would be tempted to lower those prices ( there is much better value out there ) and make it a yearly subscription, raising prices as you move forward if and when needed.

I do see both sides of the coin Downunder, but think about this, If you charge a site review fee, why would that not be a one time fee? You could justify the annual fee by saying I have to keep reviewing the sites in my directory to ensure they still meet my guidelines, so the annual fee would cover that time.

To me though directory owners and editors should be reviewing their site listings reguarly regardless, in saying that what I am I actually paying for annually, a link?

Basic and first step is not to think about PR, PR comes naturally if you work hard on your directory.

Start creating a complete site for readers, add a lot of quality content.

Off topic: Disabling image validation on my directories is a big NO because of the amount spam I get everyday.

Now let's go back on topic:

I few things that would improve your directory:

    1. Use no follow for navigational links (contact us, latest link, top sites)
    2. Each page should have a unique Page Title, if you use phpld3.3 then you have this option.
    3. Unique link description (to avoid duplicate content)
    4. Unique meta description - So when searchers see your page on google or other search engines, they will now what your site is about.

Many directories owners don't take much attention to #4, just make a search for some of your directories and see what information is displayed. Most indexed pages don't make any sense.

    5. Any page of your site should be three clicks away from your homepage (which sometimes is kind of hard)
    6. Make your site structure very easy and reachable. Don't forget to link to other pages with the keword that is most important to that page.

Anyway these are some of my advice to the OP. Obviously there are many other and for sure we argue over and over again.

Final note on that... There's a spam guard mod you can get that prevents spam, but does not cause users inconvenience.
