Each time I start a new website, I do essentially the same type of thing. This gave me the idea to create a step-by-step guide on how to market a new website to obtain quality traffic only (i.e. adheres to AdSense policy). It's just a guideline so not every step must be followed, but it's a good checklist for any new website. I'm also hoping it's general enough to apply to a variety of websites regardless of topic. My list is by no means complete, it's 3 am so I'm just posting a few things to start it off. I'll update the list as time goes on so feel free to leave your suggestions! I'll try to make this an ordered list so lemme know where yours should go. After we get a nice list going, I'll also try to elaborate on each point. Step-by-step guide to marketing your new website Optimize your website's <title> tag and alt attributes with your keyword(s) Submit RSS feeds to FeedBurner Use Google's Webmaster Tools like Sitemaps Submit to directories like the ODP Create a page about your website's topic at Squidoo Try to add some useful information to Wikipedia with references to your website. Submit articles to social news websites like Digg and Stumble.
Hey thats a good list containing detailed steps to market one's website. But dont u think it is marketing for machines i.e. Search Engines. What i mean to say is shouldn't we do marketing for humans... Taking an example, say you are a consultant to some corporate doing a consulting project on how to market their website( rather better term would be online presence), all these terms which are mentioned on the list would not make much sense to the client. Therefore what we really need to look at it is from marketing discipline point of view and then come up with a more holistic marketing plan... It is just my point of view...
