First in six years IIRC. I think he is too religious in his guidence of law. I don't know if Bush wants to be Pope or King or both.

He already thinks he's King IIRC, so he must be gunnin' for Pope now. :p

why should energy companies receive federal money in the form of subsides but not companies that invest in stem cell research?

Are what they creating conscious beings? I'm assuming that there are laws against that; the same as there are laws against killing fetuses through abortion past the point where they're supposed to be becoming conscious.

Why is the United States the Only Country in the world to give companies held by stock owners corporate welfare? Even England had the balls to tell it's airlines make it work yoursleves or fail. That's business.

When we the people of america complain about prices, the corps tell us it's supply and demand.

But when the supply and demand causes a company to fail, the corps run to the goverment and get bailouts at the cost of american taxpayers.

Wake up america, where ever you are. We are being scammed by our own goverment!

Welcome to the United Corporations of America.

I agree. If you cannot make your company work without government assistance; you don't deserve to be in business at all.

Corporate welfare also comes in the form of illegal alien amnesty. The corps want these people for cheap labor. They will be under paid and require welfare. They will have no health insurance and will overload our hospital ER's for what should be a visit to a doctors office. The ER will cost about $1,000 to $4,000. The doctor would have cost about $50.00 to $100.00. But the hospital cannot refuse to see them if they can't pay at that very moment. So they will not go to the doctor.

Those bills for welfare and medical care will be paid by american taxpayers. American taxpayers that are making less money now because they have lost their good paying jobs to illegal aliens.

Welcome to the United Corporations of America.

definitely a type of welfare that doesn't teach responsibility.

Farmers are subsidized too, now if they grow too much corn, why not have the gov't buy excess to send to countries needing food?? I would go for that kind of subsidy.

Our goverment subsidizes all kinds of medical research and has for many decades, this veto is just purely to pander to the religious right in an election year. He vetoed it using the excuse he is against murder yet the cells in question are slated for destruction anyway so instead of allowing them to be used to potentially save human life they will end up in the medical waste bin.

People forget that Bush promised in 2001 to not allow stem cell research. That Bill Clinton refused to allow it. That Al Gore opposed it. That Bush broke his promise to allow federal funding for it on existing stem cell lines, and that he's gone pretty far left on the issue.

Yes, he vetoed expacting the stem cell research to new lines with federal funds. That, however, is hardly what he had promised in 2001.

I can't imagine why those supporting stem cell research are mad when he promised not to allow any, and has flip-flopped to allowing it.

Hmm. you'd think small government yo-yo would support this veto; as all it does is create another entitlement for big business to make money on the backs of taxpayers. Non-government funded research is not affected by this at all.

No! The corps shove supply and demand down our throats to justify high prices.

So why should we have to bail them out with tax dollars when the supply and demand dries up?

I'll tell you why, because the american political system is a failure and without the big corps money, no politician could afford a campaigne. So they sell out their constiuents with their own money in the form of corporate welfare.

Wake up america, we are being fleeced by our own goverment!

Nah, man! We're being fleeced by the LIBERALS! And that's why the poorest people in the country vote for conservative republicans every time.

Liberals are nothing but rich, homo-loving, immoral pro-choice, Volvo-driving Marxists!

Conservative Republicans work for the blue collar townsfolk. (How? I'm not sure but apparently they do since they keep getting re-elected.)
