Stealing Content - Will it hurt SEO? (Interesting Question)

Okay, I don't mean to go to ezinearticles.com and steal content, but here's what I mean:

If you find a domain that just recently dropped and you register it, and it is the only web site with that content on it (niche site filled with content), can I just copy the web site as it was before, or would that hurt SEO? It's still the same domain though. :p

Content was on the site 3 years ago or so and hasn't been on since I believe.

Looking to hear back about this.

It is tricky but I can not see where it would hurt SEO. It could cause the original author to be pissed and threaten you if they find out. Technically it is still copyright infringement.

It's not the best content anyways, looks like a non-English writer who just stuffed keywords in at random, meh.
