Today my site has been down twice for about 5 minutes. Plus just now it was running very slow at intervals for about 10 minutes. I'm only getting a few hundred visitors a day so far. Yes in the long run i will go dedicated, but its not on is it? O r am i asking for too much? 99% uptime is laughable at the moment. More like 95%..
you should probably be contacting steadfast support rather than asking about it here in an off-site forum
I have 3 times today already Seriously considering switching if it doesn't improve. PHP CGI problems yada yada, reboot server yada yada i've heard it all before..
This article here reads really interesting info on the uptime guarantee that hosting companies offer or sometimes do not offer. Like this uptime guarantee reads, we can say in conclusion that hosting companies in general are not that confident in providing uptime. Some leading companies that specialize in DDoS protection provide really good and quality protection with a 99% uptime guarantee and 24/7 support. You could have your stuff hosted with a particular company and at the same time have a DDoS protection deployed which will guarantee your uptime. Maybe you should turn to such companies for a solution. You can always find and read some reviews about such companies on forums like DP and especially Web Hosting Talk. P.S: I don't know the reason for which your site went down, it could be caused by too many legitimated visitors overloading the system or it could be caused by malicious traffic being sent to your server. Either way I think that if your site depends on it's uptime and you make a living out of it, then it is a good idea to think about proper protection
That article was an interesting read, and it's true. I'm a former host, and I'm now siding with the consumers. Many times, they get stuck by hosts, and it's not fair, and the consumers need an ally. About your downtime, if you do decide to leave, if you can afford it, think about a VPS. Personally, I'm a control freak, and I feel with a VPS, you could be more in control of how it operates. The good thing is, you wouldn't have to worry about another user crashing your VPS.
