Depending on if you want to pay, you can get some pretty nice trackers. Or if not, there are some other freebies out there. Google recently acquired Urchin and their tracker is free, top notch, and incredible. You have to get an invite for that though. I suggest you sign up and hope for an invite sooner than later KG
my favourite free tools are bbclone (great for traffic analysis but has no keyword phrases) and awstats (has pretty much everything)
I just started using statcounter for one of my newer sites, and it gives me great information all in one place, so I'll second that recommendation.
if he says he can't use statcounter in IE, it means he doesn't have javascripting enabled, that's all. (statcounter uses javascript to track visitors)

I like the Google Analytics for Wordpress plugin. That way I dont have to go to google or anywhere else to see whats up
