Stats software

I'm a newbie with lots to learn, so please excuse my ignorance. I see a lot of references to google bot crawling sites and doing it several times a day and even references to how long google stays. My question is how do you know this info? I know my hosting company, Lunarpages, provides reports and I've seen documentation that the search engines are crawling my site, but I can't tell how often or for how long. Is there some optional software to use for getting all this info?

    Thanks,
    MM Parks

What control panel software are you using ?
You can use AwStats (freeware) one of the best software to check this data.

    mmparks,

Like intek said, awstats comes standard with Cpanel hosting accounts (not sure for webalizer though). In case you want to see which pages got indexed by which search engines and at what time then use this jewel: http://net-promoter.com/robots-txt/

This article about understanding web statistics might help you understand what you will see when you get into your site stats. I'm sorry I can't help you more without knowing what your particular host provides. My host, Crystal Tech provides outstanding statistics called SmarterStats, which are highly customizable but I don't know if they're all that good! Still, they do all read the same sorts of info in the logs so this should help you.

    Have fun
