I am trying to learn more about what to look for in my site statistics. I don't even no where to being to start to know what to look for. Any advide would be helpfu.
What is it you want to get from the statistics? Measure your success? Keep track of how many unique visitors per day you're bringing in, how many pages each visitor views on average. Find out who's linking to you and talking about you? Watch your referrers. These are the URLs people were at last before arriving at your site. They tell you who's linking to you, who's blogging about you, and who's bookmarking you (no referrer). Find out what people do once they're at your site? Make sure your choice in web stats service or software can break down the data by page. Know what pages are most popular, what the entry pages and exit pages are, and track navigational paths. Improve your visit depths (number of pages viewed per visitor)? Make sure your choice in web stats service or software can tell you the bounce rates of individual pages -- that's what percentage of people visiting the page leave your site afterwards. These are the pages that need improvement; more clear navigation, more links leading to related content, etc. Track your search engine optimization? Watch your searches. Find out what searches people are actually making and finding your site with, and what pages they find in those results.
Thats exactly what I was looking for. What is a good webstats program? My host has one but its a bunch of pie charts
