i would like to know if static or dynamic websites perform the best?I was originally looking into using wordpress but i thought wordpress isn't customizable enough for my liking hence hire a developer and make a static website builder with my template inserted so i can point and click and drag and drop to edit the website. But would static websites have cross browser problems?anyway i could avoid?

If your site is going to be a very simple brochure type site with a few pages that stay the same and have very infrequent updates then I would go with static. Otherwise go for a dynamic solution such as wordpress as it allows you to quickly add new content and there are many good templates freely available to make it look professional as well as adds ins if you are looking for something extra.

Whichever solution you go for you are going to have to test your site on the major browsers.

If you'll add content daily better go with the dynamic option.

As radiant_luv mentioned .. you can't avoid cross browser issues by using either static, or dynamic templates. It depends on the codes.
About hiring a website developer, and asking him/her to make you a website builder .. then you are asking him/her to develop Content Management System (CMS). If that's what you want, then I think that will cost you much cash. If it's only 1 site, and a single template, then I recommend you hire developer to design you a website, and teach you how to edit your template using html, and css. That saves you much money.

Both websites can perform well. Cross browsers issues are not a major problem. They can be fixed. The SEO should be done and you will get a better ranking.
