Nevermind, please close this thread. I finally figured it out.

 

You need to use pages, not a post for the front static page.

Create two pages, one to be used as the front page and add the content on it you want to be seen. Choose that as the front page. Another called blog or what ever you want to call it, keep the name short though. Don't add any content to the second page it will be used for the blog loop. Choose the second, blank page as the blog.
