What really matters is the Supreme Court Justices sitting on the court.

Who is your favorite judge and why?

What good is state sovereignty when you have the same greedy voters looking for a handout.

    How will this effect things?

So are you saying that what these states are doing is all a big hoax created by alternative media? I guess they'll have to copy and manipulate the voices of several state Congressmen that will be guests on the show.

It's a safeguard against martial law at least. States like New Hampshire with movements like the Free State Project aren't as dumb as the rest.

No. Sorry, I wasn't really talking about this topic specifically. Just in general.

    I am beginning to sense a drawback of the US federal form of government;
while the federal government of President Obama is doing every thing viable
to rescue the entire USA from the clutches of economic meltdown which
is leading to a nationwide depression, every sovereign state also
has the right to question his every move, specially involving financial matters, and could even come up with their own opposing state legislation.

This is such an interesting thread, thanks for starting this, and make sure to keep us updated!:) I'll admit I didn't even know about this, and I'm actually in one of the states that declared state sovereignty.

I am born and raised in Alaska and a member of the Alaska Independence Party (Thats not like being an Independent, but the actual former largest political party in the state and currently third largest who's platform is making Alaska a sovereign nation).

If you'd like to learn a little more about how the federalists will not let this happen then you might want to read about how Joe Vogler was assassinated by the federal government in 1993 just before he was to appear in front of the UN, Iran sponsored him to allow him to make his case for an Independent Alaska since the feds wouldn't hear about it and we didn't want a war. At this time our governor was also an AIP member, Wally Hickle.

It was never proved that he was assassinated but everyone close to him, including investigation police, have very few doubts that this is exactly what happened. The woman convicted of the murder is widely believed to be a scapegoat. It is all about oil and money.

The Supreme Court has ruled that States and Cities can take private property for private development.

So thats expand it to where Blago can take your property and sell it to the highest bidder. See what I mean.

High Court Expands Reach of Eminent Domain

The case was decided 5 vs. 4 with the left deciding that the Government can take private property for private use. The following Justices were in the majority on the eminent domain decision:

    John Paul Stevens
    David H. Souter
    Ruth Bader Ginsburg
    Stephen G. Breyer
    Justice Anthony Kennedy (Swing Vote)

The Liberal opinion noted that states are free to pass additional protections if they see fit.

At least eight states — Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, South Carolina and Washington — forbid the use of eminent domain for economic development unless it is to eliminate blight. Other states either expressly allow a taking for private economic purposes or have not spoken clearly to the question.

In dissent, O'Connor criticized the majority for abandoning the conservative principle of individual property rights and handing "disproportionate influence and power" to the well-heeled.

"The specter of condemnation hangs over all property," O'Connor wrote. "Nothing is to prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall, or any farm with a factory."
