    I remember that Statcounter has PR10 before and then down to PR9 and latest PR8. Today there has PR6!! See here

    PR10 --> PR 9 --> PR 8 --> PR6

    Woww - Real update with some harsh penalize.

    I think this has also ready been mentioned in several other threads before.
    It is a big drop though in PR terms.

    Yup! many big names suffers in this update. I think Google has changes its policy to the more big name you got the more google watch over you.

    This is a very sad day for Statcounter. Is there any reason for dropping PR? Do they sell links?

    Hey I got an idea. It may be because Google has Google Analytics and they want to kill their competitor.

    No sure if they sell links - they do have a selection of links on the left side of their page.

    However, someone else mentioned in another thread about Statcounter being in direct competition with Google Analytics - lets hope thats not the case that Google are going to start penalizing anyone who is in competition with them ( Don't think this will be the case - not until we see Yahoo and MSN with a PR 4 each !! )

    They sold sitewide links that's why Google has dropped down PR for statcounter.com

    I have heard they sell link while they had PR10 and I have heard again thereafter that Google penalize on them for selling link. Then their PR dropped from 10 to 9 and latest is 8 until 6 now. woww

    Not publicly like directories, but lets just say there were some high PR pages with a few non-relative links at the bottom.

    Google is really cleaning house of not necessarily 'paid' links but 'paid for PR' links.

    Of course you'll still see a bunch of disillusioned dittoheads on these forums with 'PR doesn't really matter' 'it's the SERPS that count'. Well....GOOGLE sure thinks PR matters A LOT and is hammering people that sell PR.
