Intent: Decide your purpose (sell, attract, solicit) and build your campaign specifically to that end.
Keywords: Select your keywords intelligently and carefully - there are a lot of tools available for this, spend a lot of time here.
Keywords: Select your negative keywords diligently - this will take time and experience but don't neglect it. Your bounce and click through rates will thank you.
Ads: Target your ads specifically to a small group of keywords to take advantage of the bold/relevance link between keywords and ads.
Ads: Run at least 2 ads per ad group so you can test their effectiveness against each other.
Networks: Stick to Google Search until you get the hang of things. Search partners (less so) and Content Network (much more so) take time to learn to be effective.
Ad Delivery: Do NOT select 'Accelerated: Show ads as quickly as possible' until you know EXACTLY what you're doing.
Cost: Research your competitor's ads and their content - know what you're up against.
Cost: Your keyword and ad relevance (quality) will dictate your cost per click. Keep your daily budget low until you've validated your campaign.
Site: Your landing page should match your intent. Your ads focused on buyers should land on your products page (for example).
Analytics: Make sure you install the analytics code on all of your pages.
Converions: Make sure you isntall the conversion code on your 'thank you' page (or whatever you deem a 'success' page).
Reporting: Learn the reports. Watch the bounce rate, pages viewed counts, new visitors vs. repeat - get to know your customers.
Tweak: Run reports, change things up and track your successes.
Misc: Take advantage of all the google services. If you're a merchant, throw your product out there on Google Merchant Center and link it to your campaign. Sign up your business on Google Local business center and link it to your campaign. Use Google webmaster Central.. you get the idea.

Keyword selection = make sure they are buying keywords

Content Network = TURN IT OFF!

Using effective matching options = Use all of them to start. Turn individual types off as you go.

Managing your budget = Start low. Reinvest as you make money

Selecting your destination URL = Make sure it's relevant to the keyword your bidding on

Conversion tracking = Make sure you do it! This alone will save u fortunes!

Using Reports = Once your campaigns are up and running you’ll need to monitor it’s performance, making the most of the Google AdWords reports to help make decisions based upon results.

How much do we have to pay google for hosting our ads?And what is the garuntee on getting back what we invested in this?

 

Yes, start low and turn off content network. Invest gradually so that you can measure the effectiveness and optimal budget better. From my experience, content network mostly gets you irrelevant clicks that convert to nothing.
