In my experience with purchasing re-seller hosting from places like godaddy and such is that at times the service can be less than satisfying. Network issues, or just slowness, oversold hardware, etc. If you can swing it, it may just be better to purchase yourself a cloud server, with cPanel/WHM on it, and sell your own server space. This way you control the server, and have a bit more power on what is done configuration wise. Then once you get to a better place financially, get yourself a dedicated server for ultimate control.

My suggestion is start with entry level reseller package and upgrade as your requirement grows. You must also be sure where would be your customers from i.e region wise. If you are going to serve customers from India, its better to have hosting on Indian server to give them better service.

Reseller hosting can be beneficial if you're just starting out and don't have the funds/expertise to support/maintain a VPS/dedicated server. While I agree with above posters comments, sometimes for beginners this isn't the simplest task. What I would suggest is you find a host that interests you, that provides easy methods for upgrading if needed, say maybe they provide all forms of service (from shared to dedicated server/colocation), so that when the times comes they can easily assist you. You'll want to find one that provides quick support so that if need be you can answers to your customers questions quickly.

Do you have a preferred server location? Any particular features need to be available to your clients that you want to include?

rofl, you'd do better to find some clients and create sites for them rather than set yourself up as a host.

No buyer in their right mind would buy from a host who doesn't OWN their own servers.

As others have said, being a reseller in charger of a shared hosting environment might be the way to go and then you can scale up to a dedicated server as needed. I have experience using a web hosting control panel called InterWorx and they have an interesting article about how using their control panel as opposed to the more standard cPanel option, you can distinguish yourself in a crowded marketplace. Feel free to check it out. http://www.interworx.com/community/...te-your-web-hosting-company-with-interworx-2/

vps is much costly for startup i think also the limit of ram is cause clients problems. vps doesnt get that much of ram if clients use more websites ...i think start with reseller then go to dedicated server then colocation

Other web hosts will be concerned that you misguided attempt to enter the hosting business will end up hurting their overall reputation - well that's my guess

its great that you've been open about the domain... Customers doing their research will be able to know your background.
