I started my hosting because of the same reason as yours. People told me it was foolish to start hosting but trust me, if you have the quality, you will get customers.
Good luck with your venture :)

At First welcome to the club, and second a tip - It takes time for everything...
If you have patience, perseverance and (luck) things would fall in place sooner or later.
I understand you wish to give quality hosting for your customers, but how much of skills do you posses for maintaining servers. Would you have co-located options, or you intend to become a reseller for existing host? What is your budget for hosting & maintenance. Would you be able to work as a one man army to resolve issues reported to you 24x7 (which every client expects)
If you are venturing on your own, my sincere advice would be to start with
    a. Free Hosting Services to understand (visit pubwebhost.com for details)
    b. Become a reseller for full hosting (hostgator / godaddy / pubdomainshost)
    c. You may also invest in infrastructure, have your own servers and dedicated lines to have your very personal hosting organization (most expensive option though)

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers
    GS

Getting first few clients at start-up can be a little difficult however when you offer best quality service to all your existing clients, it definitely helps in getting more clients through referrals.

Every person expects to get quality hosting.. You can't really have a company without thinking about profits, unless you have a lot of money to invest.

Without profits, you won't be able to pay for the hosting bill.

I think that that is a great motive for a hosting company :) + rep added.

I got customers by posting my ad on FreeWebSpace and WebHostingTalk

Don't expect any much revenue for at least first year, and be sure you have funds to cover the server costs for at least next 6-12 months.

You need to know a fact, over 95% of companies are closed within 1 year.

You won't even have users for few months, don't think satisifed ones :D

Also, you need to have a eye catching design.
