If you want to start a webhosting, start by giving free hosting. About half of them will stay hosting and you will make money then.
Heart internet are pretty good, i think the reseller pack is £35, but its worth it, i used them when i had a bulk load of domains, and the package is pretty good. I mention them aswell because of their domain robot and reliability.
ooops forgot to mention, are you planning on advertising on adwords? Its an expensive game! A friend of mine spent £400 in one day just for 6 signups at £4.99 per month! The rest of his customers came from forums...and word of mouth. Treat a customer right and it goes a long way!
I am using resellerspanel(dot)com from about some 2 weeks. Its free. They will give you a store url. Or you can create a domain name any where and point its name servers to it. Then it will act something like your own hosting company. Also you can create plans, you can make your own prize and profit structure. They answer to sales questions, technical, billing etc. You only need to promote the site for getting sign ups. They are providing 16 templates and you can choose any one of it. I just created a domain using namecheap and pointed its nameservers to resellerspanel(dot)com. Now it is acting like a hosting company. I think we can learn some things, and make some money, then we can start some simple hosting reseller company.

What's the point? Anyone who is going to pay real money for hosting is going to get it from a reputable company, who they trust their site with. Otherwise, it's pretty much a free for all, there's thousands of webhosts on the internet with nothing to distinguish between themselves other than price and those fucking annoying flash host templated websites they use so often. So unless you're taking a different angle or have a really good way to advertise to people who want hosting, then I wouldn't suggest starting a web hosting business. Oh, and don't think it will be easy either... I give my host a few complaints every few months, to keep them on their toes and because they have fucking stupid policies. You will be dealing with customers like me who bitch all the time.
ShReYaS - To put it simple: You have to find unique way, combined with great deals, and treat customers good and respond to support/sale e-mails ASAP. Customers LOVE fast reply's...
You really need to be coming up with a unique offer or twist with hosting becaus e its such a saturated market, and one that your never going to be hugely successful in without ALOT of time and moneys worth of investment. My advice to you, dont start a hosting business, come up with a new idea, or a new service which is still very new and highly demanded. something you have more of a chance at being siccessful in, because hosting is simply a too saturated market. whatever your decision. good luck with it and i hope you acheive what you st out to acheive.

Being from India, you have a good chance in the hosting business. You can sell hosting to Indian people, web designing, domain registration etc. Most of the Indians do not have credit card facility. So they will not go to us or other countries hosting providers. Start with accepting money orders, local checks, demand drafts etc. If you search using google for the terms web hosting, domain registration, reseller hosting, vps etc., you can find in the right side some Indian companies advertisements. Just do it from a different angle.....
