Starting out my own Web Design Firm

    Hi everyone,

I've been doing websites for myself for the past 2 years. I am very familiar with major CMS's and know how to handle any script that is thrown my way. I am also very good at templating and custom designing my sites (XHTML/CSS). I'm good with PHP, but won't be doing custom scripts for now.

But now, it happens that I wanted to give freelancing a try, and it so happens that I am getting my first customer. He only wants a simple website with contact information on it. Nothing too fancy, so it's just a matter of installing a CMS, configuring it, and slapping maybe a logo.

The thing is, that I am new to this market, and don't know what price I should ask for. It's a really simple job and don't want to ask too much, and don't want to be ripped off either.

Can someone reply to me really fast :) I really need this.

Thanks for all the help! And hope this thread helps others like me.

A good designer would charge $30 an hour. Estimate how long this project will take to complete. If it will take 2 hours, then charge $60 for the job.

Per hour is the only way to go, you never know what the customer will change there mind on while in the middle of the project, if you charge per project you will prolly lose money or customers. By the hour they have no say!

Depends on how good you are.

If the logo is amazing quality, and you have made it so they can update it very easily then for a one page site maybe $50-100.

If you charge per hour then keep a log of what you did during each hour so if they ask you can prove how many hours you worked.
