Starting forum help

Discussion in 'Forum Management' started by MarcL, Aug 5, 2007.

I want to start a forum but I really cant think what topic to start it on. People say hobbies, well my hobbies are making websites, lifting and hockey.
Lifting and hockey people wouldnt be very active on the forum and they also dont convert well to alot of profit. And a webmaster forum is just like this one.
Anyone have any ideas for what subject I could start a forum on?
    Thanks
    Marc

    lifting? as in weights?

do a forum on sports and fitness. Also cover GYM training and diet +All other important factors.

All forums are tough though as there are LOADS out there in competition!

like the other dude said, there is always alot of competition, and there is always a way to BEAT the competition. Quality is the key! even if you have to make your topics look fancy to beat your compeditors its still a good way. also try submiting your site into directories ...

    Fancy Topic:

    Weightlifting for Begginers

blah blah blah blah blah important word blah blah blah

    :)

Forums have a lot of early and upfront work. Most topics have room for more forums. You just have to be creative in your methods if you want to be successful. If you build a forum, it might be years before you see any success with it.

Only make sure you spell it correctly... :p

You really should stick to what you know and what you care about. Who says that "Lifting and hockey people wouldnt be very active on the forum" Look at GRIM! He's an active forum member AND an active weight lifter.

Forums are a long term investment of time and money, but they can be profitable with the right combination of dedication, investment and - of course - content, content, content.

I agree with edr, forums or any community website are a long term deal. I just created a hockey website purely out of passion for the game. I don't plan on looking at monetization until after year 2 or so. The key is to find something you enjoy and go for it. If you are after revenue generating websites right away then you'll have consider what makes might be the better immediate money maker but should still have some interest in the topic... it will be needed to keep your interest and pushing the site to the next level.
