Hey everybody, I got a few questions regarding starting a site the non traditional way. I get the impression that most people start sites the free way, (excluding the domain and hosting).... like.. writing their own content, and spending time submitting articles etc for backlinks and doing link exchanges etc.. I am having a hard time finding good guides for people who want to spend some money.. I have 100 unique articles written, and i want to spend around 1000 dollars to get my site off the ground and making some money... with adsense as it's main revenue stream.. So with 100 unique articles, and 1000 to spend to get it off the ground... how would you go about it? Would you invest in one way links to your site? How would you go about spending that 1000 dollars, to get your site off the ground and generating some income fast? Thanks in advance...
i don't really understand your goal of getting an article site off the ground. Not all websites require a real "launch". Mainly just community sites and other sites that depend on a large userbase. There are alot of free, cheap and easy ways to get traffic to this site so why be lazy and just spend money instead of some time. Learning this stuff is what it's all about. Unless you've got enough money to keep it up like that for every.. Regards,
I think you meant to say AdWords. I don't think that would be a good way to spend 1000 dollars.... If i was selling a product then yeah, but i don't think it's a good way to drive traffic to a free site. Especially since MFA sites are getting shut down by google.
Do some link exchanging with some good PR sites first, that will get you indexed by Google fast. Then use your articles over a period of weeks, and keep exchanging links. You won't have to spend your 1000 that you are so eager to get rid of.
I understand that. The way I see it is, it takes a little bit of money to make money. Of course there are ways that everything can be done for free, but isn't there ways to speed up that process a little bit with a small budget? I think time is really important... so if it takes investing 1000 dollars to get each site off the ground fast, i'm willing to invest in that.
I'm not eager to get rid of it. I was just wondering if there was a productive way to invest 1000 dollars into my site. Is that so wrong?
I don't believe there is a really fast way other than using adsense kinda advertising. However, for a content site, perhaps a campaign to build links, submit unique articles to various websites might be better, The amount you mention could concievable be used up in under 1 week, and you might have nothing to show for it at the end. Links, article submisssions, participation on forums an bloggs, those might last a lot longer
With few visitors, I would start with a campaign on MSN adcenter. and pay people to review your site.
Submit site to directories and exchange links. Write articles and blog about your site. Save your money and do some work to get site going. You might need money from something else latter.
Actually that would be a smart thing to do if you buy mostly long term links. If you spend money on adwords with just $1000, your money is going to be gone pretty quick, besides adwords is best used if you have a product. This is what I do: -First make sure you have set up your site correctly -Do any necessary seo for the site -buy mostly long term links-( permanent-yearly,-6 months etc., and try to buy some sitewides and high pr links (PR5, PR6) I also buy monthly links, but if the $1000 is going to be the only funds for your site for this year, then don't buy monthly if you can not afford it, or set aside a certain amount to pay for those links each month. -continue to create unique articles and go for free links. Depending on how much work you put toward your site, and the niche of the site, you can start to make some money with adsense in soon as 1-2 months. EDIT:Also try to find good deals, check out the DP link sales
I also think that, for sites trying to thrive on information (instead of selling products), one should think long term. Spend time searching the web for sites which are authorities in your field. Learn which sites might consider putting a link to you, and what it would take; if you feel your content is outstanding, send requests to .edus, .orgs and let them know about your site. Consider also listing in major directories. Dmoz is free, but it takes a very good site and a great deal of luck to get listed. Check out your category in Yahoo; if there are few links (meaning, you would appear on the first or only page of your category) and your site/domain contains your keyword, I think it's worth paying; consider also business.com. Then, continue producing good content, and continue looking for good links. Soon, you will notice that more and more people will link spontaneously to you. Good content attracts good links. Sorry if I can't give you any shortcuts.
You better do a deep analysis and make sure you are going to get a good ROI on your 1,000. And I don't think you will if you are serious about using adsense and your main revenue stream
I don't think there's any real guarantee that you'll hit off the ground in a short time with a site that you just started on, with or without the 1000. > finish constructing your site then have it cached by google > submit site to directories > submit articles to article directories > do linkbuilding and seo > update your site as much as possible you can use your 1000 in submitting your site and article to paid directories.
Answer these first: 1) Who is your audience? What are the 100 articles for or about? Why would people read them? Is this part of a new article directory, or content designed to draw people to your site? 2) Are the articles all under a common theme? 3) Are they well written, and things that people would cite as sources? Or are the the read em and go on types of things? 4) Are they keyword targeted for anything that would naturally bring you traffic, if you ranked for those keywords/themes (ie. did you do any kind of keyword research for this)? Need to know all that before I could give you any kind of advice on where to spend the $1000. I will say that arbitration (paying for traffic, such as with AdWords, to get ppc earnings, like AdSense) is probably the worst way to go with it. -Michael
