Well i see new search engines sometimes, like today i saw yanga... just wondering, is it profitable starting one? i mean if i start one (yea i can code it) will it do me any good?
No, it will do you no good to be in the less than 1% category. It will cost you millions just to build the infrastructure to store the indexes ... and all the data and sort/search through tho. Your best bet is to develop a very good search algorithm ... patent it ... then pitch it to google/yahoo/msn for millions instead of building your own.
Unless your brilliant with algorithms and can develop something outstanding then you best know somebody who is weatlthy. Even the google guys could give their stuff away at the beginning. for them it was about knowing the right people to invest. and like the other guy said search engines require huge infrastructure investment
If you want to do it i can give you a Google Search Engine clone. MP me! Exactly like google you just need to add your google ads and change logo. A++
Sure its worth it...if ya got something original. If you just have the bog standard 'copy google' idea, then forget about it. The web is littered with dead search engines who had no originality. So if ya wanna do a search engine, then do an original method of indexing, or an original search implementation. Otherwise you're dead before you even start. Thats IMO!!
See friend there is one law which i obey. "Don't develop something that has been developed by someone" There are lots of competition going on market for search engine's, we should try something about something new which can give users what they want and give us profit from them. Google has lots of data stores in the server back from 90's and their search algo is best of its ever so there is no chance of developing search engines for money.
Yanga, cuil etc etc etc can get into competition with msn and that too only if they have brilliant resources. forget about Google
Good if you able to custom your own and patient of severest toil and hardship (it need 10 years ) and No if your search results just reply on other search engines like those so called Google Clone.
I'm in the process of creating my own, although it's not like the others out there, as in, it has a niche.
I think that creating own private search engine is not worth at all! Simply because there are many quality and large companies as your competition, like Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft...
Starting a search engine could work out providing you provide something that other SEs are not offering.
First you have to invest lots of money with the use of right strategy for developing any idea in online market.
Many webmasters had tried to develop Google like Search Engine but most of them are nowhere now SEs are not just normal search bots but should also have excellent programing which can filter results based on search terms used, also you need to have highly configured server which can process thousands of request simultaneously.
I think it's still worth it and still profitable. You can start with a small niche and expand gradually. I'm interested in this project. Can you please give me more information?
yea well when google started, there was no other search engine...so i should think of something which doesn;t exist on the internet yet, and i may succeed
