I was just wondering how much success people have gotten with personal blogs? Are there themes to personal blogs? Can they make decent money? If so, where does the money come from? Just ads? Do you find you're more successful if you have your own domain rather than using a shared host?
Your own domain helps. Make a blog about a topic you know and like. This way you will be happy to write new posts. Try adding affiliate links to products related to each topic and adsense ads for some extra money.
I was asking myself the same question being new and all. It just seems the market is so large now, it might be to late to make any money at this.
Well, obviously if it's a personal blog, i'd write about something i am personally interested in, but what makes a site like that successful? I can't imagine that adsense could bring a personal blog a ton of money and without a clear cut theme to your blog (i.e. about nature or politics or whatever) how do you get affliates when your target audience is so broad?
I think you will always make "some" money, but I don't know if you'll get "rich" from it. At least I'm not rich from it yet ;-) If you're going to blog, I'd suggest approaching it form a love of writing, and a love of one or more topics, and don't worry about making money. To many of us (myself included), fall into a 'money trap', perhaps checking our adsense hourly. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have even put up advertising and affilate programs right away, I would have added them slowly overtime, after I've become comfortable with blogging and maybe even developed an audience, the I'd have added ads slowely and steadily along the way. So yes, you can be very sucessfull blogging, it just depends on your goals and what you are measuring as success. Good Luck
Well here's my situation... I love writing and i think i do it pretty well. My friends all love reading my funny blogs about life. And normally i wouldn't bother with trying to make money. I'd just write. But i have this opportunity to live in london all expenses paid for a few months next year. it's a once in a lifetime chance and i want to do it. The problem is that even if i sell all my stuff and get rid of my apartment, i still have credit card bills and Student loans to pay every month while i'm gone. So i'm looking for a way to make enough money to cover those expenses, while i'm out of the country and not really working. If i can do it doing something i love anyway (blogging), the better. So i'm just wondering if its worth trying. Or should i maybe try to find some other means of income
personal blog does not mean u write about u - u need to give opinions on anything u like...informative for readers
Being brutally honest, if you are not a famous person that tens of thousands of people care about, a personal blog will not make you any significant money. They just don't generate enough traffic.
Ah, well I don't think you'll bring up enough passive income in a short amount of time to pay off your bills. Depending on how big your bills are your might be able to make enough to make the "minimum" payments. Do you have any assets you could sell to pay off the debts? Is there any possibility of working while you are in London. Congrats by the way, all expenses paid in London sounds like it would be fun !
