That's true, but then it probably becomes an ethical issue, stealing is still stealing wherever you are in the world. Still it kind of rules things aout for any citizens or hosts based in the EU and North America.
in some country it's LEGAL to use foreign pictures. it's NOT fraud, 100% legal. take India, China, and many more. and same applies for patents, unless they're registered worldwide (which takes minimum 3 years, btw). same for company logos, company names, etc
No it's NOT legal, you don't have to copyright a photograph in order for it to be copyrighted by you. I think you're confusing patents and copyright. i live in one of those countries, that's why i said it. here is legal even to buy Photoshop for 1 dollar in a shop. you get a small package looking like a dvd-box with a low-res printed cover, and in the back the serial number or the instructions to apply the crack. ALL legal, 100%, you go to check out and they give you a receipt. if the "product" doesnt work, they'll give you a new one or make a copy in front of you. however, servers here are quite slow so i wouldnever base my biz here, not to mention other factors like ban on pornography etc.

hey i live in china. here it IS legal. come and see for yourself. and not just photoshop, autocad, etc, but also TONS of DVDs and MP3s. p.s. not to mention the pirated divx/mpg4 they sell in front of the stores for 1 USD$.

yeah there's a lot of talk here about piracy but fact is, all the computer shops SELL those pirated dvds and so far nobody complain, nor i've recently seen any crackdown against piracy apart in the long talks we read on the newspapers. yet, the only thing they seem to care is protecting the local chinese music and movie industry, infact most of the piracy is related to foreign movies, foreign softwares, and foreign music. you can link as many PDFs as you want but here the situation is much different from what you may have seen on TV
well theres some crack down, the best dvd store in town has shut down and re-opened a few times. Nobody really cares too much though. People should understand that alot of the chinese gov runs on bribes. For instance let me introduce KTVs. These are karaoke bars, people go and sing there and drink beer, or maybe have some hookers they are one of the most popular entertainment options available. Anyhow its illegal for KTVs to stay open past like 2 AM or something in shanghai.. NONE of the ktvs do that cuz they have all paid off the cops. Its the same deal in dvds, which i have a few thousand of There are some changes.. shanghai has closed xiang yang market which was a huge market place available for buying all kinds of fake things. You could buy anything from nike shoes and golf clubs, to rolex's and prada purses.

i was not saying it too. all i said is that there are TONS of public domain images freely available, then there are TONS of CC/CreativeCommons images freely available, and TONS of copyrighted pictures that can be hosted if the authors agree. just take Flickr for instance and search for CreativeCommons-only images.. there are MILLIONS of them, and many are also very nice, and 1000s more are uploaded every day. china : what can i say, here they steal anything, laws are made to be broken, corruption is rampant, go in every decent Technological Fair in Shanghai or Beijing or Guangdong and you'll se tons of cloned products, they even clone the manuals, the logos, the phone numbers ... when a new movie comes in the cinemas, here they are already selling the DVD for 10 rmb in front of every supermarket. and ppl buy it, despite the many cops around who close one eye. patents ? WTO ? here they laught about it. only in very few rare cases the thiefs get busted, and when it happens it's a big news.
lol and in these cases they're closing them for one reason, the people stopped paying their bribes! Maybe the cops wanted a raise and the people wouldnt stand for it, thats when they get brought in.
well, the time it takes to rip copyrighted images isnt much than the time it takes to rip public domain or creative-commons images. however, back to the original question "starting a p-rn site", i wouldn't start it nowadays.
