    Hello,
Its been over a month, I initiated two projects on Niche Article Directories.
    1. Health Article Directory
    2. Travel Article Directory

Both are based on Wordpress Platform.

Unfortunately My Host - hostgator - removed my index page from first directory claiming

So basically killing the site at the first week itself.

Hosted my Travel Article Directory on ipage Host.
Here too it started creating a database problem wherein the site would through a redirect to install.php after interval of 4-5 hrs for abt an hr.
The Host have helped to solve the problem for the time being. But now there is another problem
As Mentioned I intended the site to be a specific to Travel Articles.
However I am currently receiving tons and tons of articles (most from auto bots )on almost all niches in any categories. This is creating a big problem to check and admin the articles. As of today I have deleted around 4500 articles since they just didnt belong to my Niche..

    MY Site : http://www.travelezine.info
I would like to have suggestions from established webmasters who already have article directories on how they tackle these sort of problems.

Also suggestions on how I improve my site performance.
    Thanks.

I have a general article directory but different script (articledashboard) there no any support for this sicript. For wordpress aksihmet or something else may be useful for you. But it is very hard to review on a niche article directory they use only bots to submit .

phpld stuff are working on article directory script hope they can solve this problem

    good luck with your directories

I got wordpress as Article Directory and customized it so that Users can register and submit articles. The articles are approved by admins only.I have spam filter enabled and i can also enable/disable user account. The big problem is backup. In wordpress If your site exceeds certain limit, taking backup is tedious.
You can try ArticleMS - its light, easy to install and maintain.

Indeed, using WordPress as directory (either link, article or both) is not a good idea as it will take a lot of your host's resources in shared hosting if your directories are well trafficked. Directories are typically high in traffic, and typically in the first week, there will be a surge of traffic especially after you promote your article directories on forums or other place.

You might want to consider a dedicated server, etc. but that depends on your web hosting's tolerance for excessive CPU usage. Maybe you also want to try cloud hosting that will never suspend your account for a surge of traffic? (cloud hosting might charge you more as you use more resources - automatically.)

    My 2 cents.

Yes, user registration can be required or not. It is a setting in the admin. To import articles into phpLD, it may require some help (which we can provide, but probably not free). Possibly the Google Docs Mod could be used, but I don't know what kind of export featured Article Base uses.
