Starting a new WP blog? Check privacy settings

I use hostgator (Fantastico) to install my blogs, but recently they changed the default privacy settings. I used to take it for granted that the settings were the same as before, but whatever host you're using make sure that you have the right settings.

Make sure that this is checked:

I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers

    And not:

I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

    Go to Settings/Privacy

I just noticed that myself as well. It's weird how they would default to not letting bots in.

I just talked to live support in HostGator. They told me that the current default settings do not block search engines.
I do not have a account there. So can't check :)

I have hostgator and seohosting (hostgator) and it does have the block searchengines checked by default. It's happened recently that they changed the default. I never used to check and just took it for granted that the searchengines were allowed and I had to go back to the domains I created in the past few weeks to change the default.

It's not only hostgtaor but it happens with other hosts,... Though usually by default privacy setting is set to visible... But in some cases it happens..!!
I have two blog hosted on Hostgator..
When I installed the first one... Its privacy setting was set at visible but with addon domain it was set at not visible..
    Strange thing...
