I am planning to do some forums although I have no big budget at the moment so I might settle first into SMF since it is also easier to use but I would like to asked if you can recommend good hosting company that is not so expensive? .And you can placed SMF with no problems.

Nice post but I am not going to agree with #6 point.

I don't see anything wrong if we have ads from day 1.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions.

@nonoymarv: You can use HostGator. They're the best and you can install SMF with Fantastico with only 2-3 clicks

    Good post. Green rep added.

I might add that it helps to have a partner (or assistant) to help you keep up with the forum.

I think nefirms is not bad, and it has plan for $9 per month.

Well, you have a good forum over there. I think you need better monetization. I don't know much about monetization and you'll have to wait for tips by other members.

Also, as I have lots of free time if you need a partner for your forum I'm interested. Anyway, contact me so we can talk more.

    Thank you

Thanks for the tips, I'm launching a new forum and it's definitely different from launching a commom website

    Yes that's for sure.

It's totally different from a commom website. Good luck with the forum.

I hope this thread helped you a bit

You also definitely need a unique topic, or a program that the forums are based around & a small community already in place. Whether that be friends or paid posters.

Thanks for the information Art. Do you think running a free forum can actually make any money? Or would one just run one for link connections?

I think "don't give up easily" is the most important advice. Getting a forum off the ground takes a whole amount of work, you just have to keep at it
