I want to start 2 sites, a link directory and an articles website. What should be the best way to go? I already have a domain for the links directory. I still have to decide if I should make a sub-domain for the articles directory on the links directory or should I go for a completely new domain? Will it be beneficial to market them if they are on the same domain? or should I have separate domains for them. The domain I have for the links directory is like www.*****linksdirectory.com so would an articles sub-domain like http://articles.*****linksdirectory.com be alright? Any help will be appreciated, especially from webmasters who own one or more links directory and articles directory.
Id make a new domain. Both sites will have different marketing strategies plus your domain doesnt not go well with the articles directory.
I'd ask why? There are so many out there. Most people just throw these sites up, using PHPlinkdirectory and ArticleDashboard.com and then that's it. If you don't have a specific GOOD reason for starting one of these sites or no REAL plan of action, I'd recommend spending your time on sites that are more profitable. These sites aren't going to make you any real money and they'll take forever to establish if you do go for the long haul.
I have setup the exact thing your talking about and opted for the subdomain for my article database. The key is to make sure all your different sites network together and feel like they belong to one another. Not just one blank script ontop of another blank script. My example: http://z-blackfox.info http://articledirectory.z-blackfox.info http://z-blackfox.info/blog/ Hope this helps with your decision.
If you have a generica name you may go for sub-domain which should be OK If you go by your existing name www. *****linksdirectory.com I don't advise that. Say I have a domain www.dotrig.com as of now I am using it for a directory, I can add a article directory and it should be OK. Since that name don't have a linkDirectory in it. That is my $0.02 You are the one to make the final call. Thanks
