    Hello,

I want to start a forum to publish informative articles. The main aim is to share my own knowledge at the same time allowing users to post and reply... Actually I know that a blog is best suited but you know your language must be good inorder to make it a quality site thats why I choose a Forum so that we can write whatever we like and also get feedback from visitors. Now I can anyone tell me a forum software which allows visitors to post without registration. is that possible? And which software should I choose? phpBB or vDeck or anyother? If I prefer a freeware now then can I later upgrade that to a paid one. Like phpBB to vDeck without changing the links and all?

Also, I have an unused domain now http://www.infomatrics.com/. Is this domain suited for a forum? forums.infomatrics.com.

    I registered that domain to start a technolog blog. matrics means M-mobiles A-articles T-technology R-reviews I-internet C-computers S-softwares

You can use SMF(Simple Machines Forum) and then change the settings to allow guest posting on which ever boards you like. This is the software that I use for my website's forum, and I have not had any problems. If you have more questions, feel free to ask me, I'll be happy to help you. :)
Btw, sounds like a good idea.

I also reccomend SMF. They're easy to use, and very nice when you customize them. Of course there are others too like MyBB and so on.

Well, phpBB is free, and allows guest posting and is easy to use as well, i myself have good experience with it. Since i didn't use SMF so cannot comment on it

phpBB gets my vote, but if you do install it ensure you add the mods from this site- http://www.phpbb-seo.com/ as they will make your board much more search engine friendly ;)

My opinion, I think vbulletin is the best. Just take a look at my entire website. It's all vbulletin..but very hacked and modified.

Hi is that feature available on PHPBB RC3 Version? I have once tried that thing when it was in beta 3. It have some common features of vDeck and it supports sub category.

So which is better SMF or phpBB?

SMF is OK, it's not my favourite forum script, but it does have one bonus over phpBB - it is less common, so less of a target for hackers. With phpBB you have to be very dilligent about updates, and that can become quite annoying once you have installed a lot of mods.

I like your forum idea, but I'd be careful about having too many different categories until you are sure that you can fill them with content.

Also, if it works then I can add more services under that same domain... and can be used as a brandname. If I make the forum at the top level then i cant make it a brand.

Also one more thing... will search engine penalize me if I paste articles from other sites and include the source

So that I can share my own views about the same
