Starting a Forum

Discussion in 'General Business' started by c20let_van, May 6, 2012.

Well after a few years working offline, I want to get back working online and doing a little project. I have a few niche ideas for forums that I think would definitely take off, with quite minimal work compared to others.

I have started selling on ebay and always looking for a bargain to make me some extra cash.

If you are interested in maybe producing a partnership/business together then please pm me and we can have a little chat.

    Thanks.

I totally understand, I've set up a forum that I put alot of hours in, working 6 hours a day at it for a few months to get nowhere. So I left it dormant and running on autopilot and also paying someone to keep it updated etc. About a year passed and nothing then boom it took off but later fizzled out a few years later.

I think with the ideas I have and some knowledge but would like a bit more experience and knowledge from a fellow partner.

What I am ideally looking for is a person who can put in the time like myself maybe 2-4 hours a day. I will lay out the costs for hosting and domain. And we will split all revenue 50%.

I want someone who can promote the forum using SEO, Backlinks etc. I will supply the forum with all content.

Setting up a forum is a very grueling and daunting task, you will go threw many days where there is little to no activity and it will cause frustration. From experience the first few months will require lots of recruitment and natural marketing and growth.

Yeh i've done it a few times a while back, just want to push for a new project forum. I've got an idea, passion for the idea and can post content about it so its pretty nice start i would say. I know its going to be hard but i am willing to put some considerable work in, its cost me $30 for hosting and domain name so will be adding plenty of content and getting a nice theme for it. Keeping it simple nothing over the top. Content will be key.

After a year of work, i only just abandoned a forum communtity that myself and others had worked on. It was a one of a kind forum for a select group of gamers with a fanbase of over 1million players, we never planned nor aimed to monetize the site, so the site ran at a permanent loss We 'thought' there was the support of a massive number of people behind us to make a great little community forum, in reality, the 'massive' number of supporters translated to very few members and even fewer posts.

my other sites, for less work, no time wasted moderating spam bots or removing viagra links means i can earn more $$ for less time.

Not to hijack this thread, but what is postloop?
I think social networking sites like facebook and twitter have killed forum activity. It's much more difficult now that to get a forum off the ground and even more difficult to keep the posts coming.
