Starting A Directory?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by Kagato, Feb 16, 2008.

I am thinking about starting a directory on my blog.

What do you think is more better / profitable?

    A Bidding or Normal one?

If so... Which script is the best?

I am going to use it related to my blog and so its going to have links on my main page and so it should be helpful for users etc and so how much can I make from them?

Start a normal niche directory. Add lots of content and get a nice design. There are many scripts to choose from.

For normal web directory you can go with phpLD or eSyndicate or Indexscripts and for bidding directory you can go with phpLB,LBS or phpLD.

I personally prefer indexscript its much more easier to customize. But phpld is a good script as well.

A normal one is easier to earn from than a bidding directory.

Why do people just pop along and say phpld is the best without backing it up with facts? It's not the best, far from it, do the OP a favour and direct them to a wide variety of script that are not only better but also free.

edit: I just noticed the OP has a phpld directory in the footer so perhaps already knew about phpld?

You should take in consideration eSyndicate, or phpld. But the most important part in having a directory is that you need a lot of time to promovate it and after that 10 times more time to administrate the directory. Is not easy, but some times the effort pays back :)

You can start a bidding directory if you think that is for you. Suggest that you use phpLB 1.4 for that.

You can't just jump in and say that without offering up the alternatives you say are better - do you have any examples?

It could be concieved as me overpromoting phpLynx mcfox or people might even say I'm trying to hi-jack the thread which I don't want to do.

    Ah, gotcha. :)

I have to say it seems to me to be fair to post a link to phplynx since the OP did ask about which script is better. My own preference is phpLD but phplynx is a rising star in the field, one which I feel will be a serious competitor to phpld after some revisions and improvements.

There is also esyndicat, of course, just to mention the main players.

Thanks, any chance of letting me know what your ideas are on revisions and improvements mc? We're always ready to learn and if things can be done they will be done. :)

That would be best discussed in another thread - don't want to hijack this one.

In the meantime, and in response to the OP's question, my own preference is phpLD as the best script at the moment. Others may differ in their opinions obviously but if I was recommending one it would be that for now.

I noticed the new thread thanks mcfox. We're all entitled to our own favourites, and I have no issues at all with that, quite the opposite, I think freedom of choice is great. What I find annoying and it does spoil this forum to a degree is when people pop up like with 'I love phpld' or 'phpld is the bestest' and then scoot off without even saying why they think that. Not to worry, maybe if we get hold of a good marketeer on our side we may get our message across. :)
