Hey Everyone: What is the difference between a directory and a link exchange? They both seen to have categories and similar organizations. I have my own personal website/blog. I shall refrain from advertising it here. However, I just registered a domain name under my whole name with a dot com ending. I have been thinking a lot about linking strategies. I have just been doing the forum blog thing as just one of my many forum/linking strategies. However, this method is so time consuming because it takes so much time to actually research reputable forum and then decide which posts and can actually reply to and/or offer any substantial comments or suggestions to members that are of any use. I have been thinking more about reciprocal linking strategies and been researching the matter. I have concluded that linking is important, preferrably from directly-related websites to semantically referenced or appropriated thematic websites. Does any believe in reciprocal linking software? Does anyone use scripts? I am beginning to really like the use or automatic scripts for reciprocal linking purposes. This must really save time....agree? Are they usefull? I have currently installed a version of Auto Reciprocal Link PHP script (I think that is the name). Any thoughts people? Sincerely, Daniel.
The number one thing a directory needs above domain and template and articles is a good set of non-empty categories.
1- Start a niche directory instead of a general directory 2- Do as much marketing as you do programing and site improving
My best advice would be to set a block of time that you work on your directory. For example, I work on directory from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. everyday (ok most days). In that hour I can approve all submissions and deny all spammy sites. With a directory you can find yourself sitting in front of your computer for hours looking to make moves on it. For the first couple months I was approving people about 10 times a day. Be prepared to use some time managing techniques.
