Starting a clothing line

So I want to start a clothing line... with unique t-shirts (appealing to the teen - young adult age group).

Budget is $300 :p I know, but that's just to start off, and a % of the profits will be placed back into the business :) (this is mainly for fun, but it would be nicer not to lose $$ along the way ;))

How do you think I should start this off  with ordering blank t-shirts... (everything will be designed by us so that'll cut down on the costs!)

    Thanks

i know of a couple good links to where you can design your own t-shirts and print them for cheap like 5 bucks a shirt. But I would invest in a website..? first.

    Could you post the links?

We're mainly looking for something local though :) Probably a test run of 10 t-shirts and we'll probably sell more after that.

You could always test the designs with a POD (print-on-demand) shop like with www.CafePress.com, make a little bit that way, and then move the designs off to your own shop. If you don't want to deal with the site and e-commerce stuff on your own, you could set up shop with www.PrintMojo.com - similar to POD shops in that they hold your inventory, deal with orders, shipping, etc., but different in that the quality is better and you preorder production and let them stock it for you (not printed on demand).

If you're looking to only sell local for now, then look at local print shops. Chances are that they'll be pretty expensive if you're only wanting to print 10 though. The print setup takes a good bit of time... you could easily be charged $10-20 / shirt for a small batch order. When you're ready for larger orders, you can check out some of the online suppliers (search for band t-shirts or band merch... you'll find a lot of sellers that way). One I know some bands in my area were using other than printmojo is CustomInk.com... not sure of their rates though.

If you used a site like CafePress then it shouldnt cost a penny, if you can do the designing yourself, they will handle shipping and packaging etc. Also, theres no minimum order, and if you are a 1&1 customer (terrible host) then you get an extra $2 per sale or something.

If you want to sell locally then maybe cafepress isn't a good idea though
