    Hey everyone, need some help.

I'm looking to start a blog on my current industry and need help with the basics.

    1) I need a linux serve account to host a blog? (1and1.com is was leaning towards)

    2) simply use wordpress.org as it seems pretty easy to use?

    3) i was planning to piggyback off my startup's social media success to drive traffic as well as by adding informative content daily. tips/learning process/etc

Any advice is sincerely appreciated. I'm considered a dinosaur within the dp forums and I'm just trying to catch up haha.

    Thanks guys.

If anyone has questions about product management or startups, send me a note.

If you're looking for a linux hosting, you'll find a lot of offers @ the services area. Hint: You get what you pay. ;)

Yes, go with wordpress if its only a simple blog.

    thx ben for the reply.

do i need linux hosting? that was simply what the 1and1 told me I needed to run a wp blog.

the blog itself will be fairly simple, with maybe slots for advertisers or affilliates.

Trying to make it informative, serving as a resource to those interested in the products/services/industry updates

I believe Windows hosting would be fine as well.

1and1 isn't great. You need something that can run php and mysql, and Apache if you want pretty urls .. or some kind of rewrite.

You can get a blog free from blogspot and wordpress.com if you want to start out slow. You can change it to a specific domain if you need to.

Let me know and I'll help you. Don't go with 1and1 - bad rep...

Buy Hosting from HostICan, DreamHost or anywhere else w/ one-click install of WordPress.

I agree, if you don´t want to deal with the install (wich is fairly simple) start with a service that offers one-click install.

Have you considered MovableType? you should see if it fits your needs too

It is really simple if you install it through the cPanel using Fantastico. Check out my Wordpress Installation Tutorial - actually this is the one-click Wordpress installation if I am right.
