Hi I'm thinking of starting a blog site which will distribute free instrumental music in mp3 format, and I want to run adsense on it. I've been reading and I've heard that you cant put adsense on a site that has downloadable mp3's, but the catch is I'm gonna put the music I make as I currently have a huge library (about 80 + songs) which are all mine, can I do this legally ?
Google has a problem with warez sites that breach copyright laws. Obviously if all the music is your own this shouldn't be a problem. The question is whether Google will believe you when you tell them "I own the copyright". Sadly, I doubt they will.
Emails that have purportedly come from the AdSense team say that if you own the rights to material you can use AdSense on pages that display it: http://groups.google.com/group/adsense-help-guidelines/browse_thread/thread/7d5aa28f9ecdfb53/b2d5ad6b18bcc68d?q=mp3&rnum=1#b2d5ad6b18bcc68d However, it seems to be the consensus that you should have the site reviewed to ensure that they know about it and don't ban you.
There won't be any problems for you as long as you have all the legal documents. I have seen some blogs offering mp3 downloads, which are not owned by them, using adsense (which might be risky).
