Hi everyone, First of all I don't know if I'm posting this in the right place, but I guess I am. I'm thinking in starting a blog about fitness with some cool tips about nutrition and training, but my problem is that english is not my mother language and I'm concerned that might pass in my writing (I'm sure it will). So basically what I wanted you to do is tell me what you think about my gramar and such. Do you think it's good enough for a successful blog? And will it affect the amount of traffic I get? Or do you know any successful blogs with english that isn't that much correct? Here's one post from my blog (since I can't post links): How to build muscle (very simple version) Building muscle can be a real headache for some people, but the reality is that you only need to follow these steps. The problem is if one fails you’ll end up with poor results. Train hard: When I say hard, I mean hard! Give everything you got in the gym, try to evolve, don’t just stick to the same weights week after week. The best way to build muscle is by improving your strength too. Training hard includes training with intensity, don’t rest more than one minute per set. Keep track: By keeping track of your weights you’ll know what’s the weight you have to maintain or you have to beat in that train. Keep track of your body weight too, that way if your weight is going up, but you aren’t lifting more probably you’re putting on fat and you’ll need to adjust your diet. Eat: To put on muscle you need an hiper-caloric diet with between 300 and 500kcal more than what you spend in your daily routine and train. I’ll certainly make more posts about nutrition, but the basics are: eat lean proteins (turkey, chicken, eggs, …), complex carbs (rice, sweet potato, …) and unsaturated fats (nuts, olive oil, …). Rest: Resting is crucial to grow, you don’t grow in the gym. You go to the gym to stimulate your muscles into growing, they grow when you rest. Babys sleep many hours per day, this is because they are growing when the sleep. Basically the just feed and sleep, that’s what you’ll need to do, with the stimulus from the train you’ll grow lean muscle mass. Thanks for the help
Hi bcoe, Your writing ability in a non-native tongue is very good! For the most part your grammar and spelling are correct. I think that what is most important is that your content is valuable and not fluff. Try writing your content in Word before pasting it into your blog editor, so that you can spell- and grammar-check it. There are a few little things (like "hyper" and "babies") that jump out at me, but for the most part the content looks very 'clean' to my eyes when I scan it. Awful errors jump out like a train wreck to me when they're present in other content. So in closing, I suggest that you can have the confidence to continue because you have strong foundations and are writing meaningful content. Also, you can let people know what your mother tongue is on your website...make it part of your branding that you're from "somewhere else!" Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for the post ncsalestrainer, it really put a smille on my face. I'm still doubtful about my skills to blog (since I'm studying to become an engineer my writing skills aren't the best) but I'll surely give it a try. And I guess I'll follow your advice and say that English isn't my first language. Thank you!
Goodness your writing is very good since you said you are a non English speaker.. Many people on here could learn from you! Anyways I'd still suggest you better your writing skills because learning is apart of growing. There are tons of books on amazon that can help you with your writing skills. From there just blog and have fun with it. Set a goal and stick with a schedule and you should find the success you are looking for. It might take some time.. Lastly buy the domain for your blog.. don't go with some free sub domain .. owning is so much better. Name.com is cheaper than Godaddy in the long run as well. I wish you the best of luck.. it seems like you are on a great track already so keep up the great work!
I agree with the previous poster that you're off to a very good start. There are just a few smaller mistakes and they don't detract from the message or the readability. Just a couple observations. First, this post is pretty short. A lot of people say that to gain search engine respect, a post should be around 400 words or more. Secondly, this particular niche is a very crowded one, so you'll want to come up with some sort of angle that will set you apart from all the other nutrition/health/strength blogs out there. It might be focusing on a more detailed subtopic, or it might be mixing in some personal observations/experiences. Either way, best of luck!
Thanks for the support guys XD Responding to sweetcrabhoney18: I already have a domain, but I bought .info and I don't know if it was the right choice, but now it's what I have. ajwalsh: You're right this is a crowded niche, but the number one tip that I hear from bloggers is to write about something you like and know about, so this is it. I guess I'll have to think about a subniche in fitness or something like that. Thank you all for responding
I thought your post was pretty good overall; I know I couldn't do as well in a non-native language. I was a bit confused by this: y keeping track of your weights you’ll know what’s the weight you have to maintain or you have to beat in that train
I say go for it. Give people something of value and they won't care that your English isn't A+ perfect. If you know a lot about training and fitness, one would assume that you look the part. I would make sure you include photographs of yourself. That will help set you apart from the people working in that niche only because it can be profitable and not because it is something they do themselves. As has been said, I would mention where you are from. You can probably even make a joke about English not being your first language. You also will probably find that the more you write, the better your skills will become. Instead of 'train' or 'workout' shouldn't it be 'training session'?
Thanks for the post. To start I just want to put up some content, then I'll see what I can do more, but photos are a good idea too.
Your English isn't that bad. There are a few errors, but still, I think it's better than most people who're in your situation. I think you should definitely proceed with starting the blog. You can write it yourself and be okay. What I think you should do, though, is make it evident that you're not a native English speaker. In your profile or welcome area, go ahead and tell readers that you're not native English -- but you know fitness and nutrition like the back of your hand. So bear with you and try to use to good info you blog about. This would actually help you build a persona, a brand. Kind of like Arnold Schzartznegger. Everyone loves his accent. We don't expect perfect English from him. You can make your readers feel the same, value you for being exotic, hard-working and helpful.
I think your writing is really good. the few spelling and grammar errors are minor - something that can be easily corrected by the spellcheck tool in word. I like the fact that you article is focused - no fluff. People will still read your blog even if you make a few spelling errors because you are giving them valuable information. Keep at it, you are on the right track. regards
Thank you, I've started posting, only got 3 articles and I'm already overwhelmed by the quantity of sites, blogs and forums out there, I don't know if this is a good niche to explore. The fitness niche is soooo saturated, but this is the topic I know about. Hope you're right and that good quality information can bring me some trafic. Thanks for the support!
I say go for it. Being a non native English speaker, I also face the same problem. Usually it just takes longer to double-check the posted content. Otherwise I think with some effort we can also compete with everyone. Keep in mind that also many of your visitors will be from other countries. If you provide valuable content, your readers will easily forgive a mistake or two...
YOu aritcle is awesome but write every day spend you time with blogging and get huge experience bcoz experience is everything but you need to practice as much you can all the best
