    Hey all,

I am just starting out a web hosting and design company but I really wanted to get advice and suggestions about the steps I should take and how to progress.

Right now I have a dedicated server with a few clients which I designed their sites so I was responsible for setting their hosting up which meant I could put them on my own server as they have no clue about web design or anything.

The question is, how can I really start to move forward with my business?

Also, what skills am I going to make sure I have?

I am interested in knowing what people say the right steps are to making at least a relatively successful business in design and hosting.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't say about web design, you seem have experience already :) But about hosting, you will need to have technical skill to manage your own server, or you will need a managed solution, that the vendor will take care server for you, you can spend your time to your business.

Also, if you want to start hosting business, you might pay attention that it requires support more than web design. Your server can have trouble anytime, day or night. Your customer can contact you anytime. You might need to spend more time or more money to hire technical support

That's the thing you can think about for starting :)

From my experience from running a web design co, it is who you know. You won't make it very far on the net if you just put up a website and freelance.

I would suggest going to real life user meetings, networking with other designers, help out with an opensource product or CMS. Meet people network, get a reputation then you will make some good cash.
