Ok I've designed and started a website. I am also the writer. Now how do I go about making money from it?

I am completely new to this. Compete layman, but I understand pretty fast. Please help me out here.

promotion! promotion! without promotion a website is a ticking bomb with short life span
do SEO and try to put unique content to attract natural traffic. starting a website is the most basic thing to do.

I hope to get good traffic. I used to write a lot and have some people who appriciated it, so they will come regularly. I want to know WHO will pay for traffic ?
How do I get the moolah out of good traffic?

i suggest you use wordpress for a CMS as your current site isnt really that attractive.

You can then add posts easily and add adsense to your blog etc to make money.

Yes you havbe got to change the layout. I can barely read your writing... I know you want style to accentuate your writing, but nobody is going to hear your message or more importantly want to come back if the site is not visually appealing. I am not trying to be harsh, just constructive. :)

sigs=backlinks and more google visits. as far as site design goes, if you don't want to go the blog route, which would be great for your site, you can look at a few other site designs that are appealing to you and make them yours. i'm not sayin rip 'em off, i'm saying take the layout and mess around with it, change the colors, change the graphics, do your thing. turn the site into the poetry that frames your poetry, you know what i mean.

the most important thing to know is when it comes to money, the amount of time you put into your site is the most important factor in your success. it determines whether your site is a hobby, a supplement to your income, your sole source of income, or your road to easy street.

those are my tips, good luck to you man

All that crap dont matter.. He is better off getting a job and outsourcing.. why waste months trying to learn something/wasting time doing things wrong/wasting time wth sig links.. When he could just outsource it and reap the rewards????

I think it is good to outsource, but I also believe if you do not know all the ins and outs of this business yourself, even if you do to choose to outsource eventually.. you will never make significant money.

mainly for the same reason i did, to make more money then he ever did at any job. to outsource you have to have money to begin with and the knowledge to know what the heck to outsource and how to do it, to start a website you have to have at most $15 and a little desire. and what is he going to outsource, it's a blog he wants to fill with his writing. unless you're talking about spam.

you can either give the guy vague generic advice and send his mind reeling or give him some real advice that will get him started in the direction he wants to go. you chose the first, i chose the second.

Get some money.. Get your design good. Advertise. Make Profit. Advertise. Make Profit. Quit Job. When money is stable from your site.

you need money to make big money.

No one will partner with you until you make your site a lot more visually appealing..

As people have said, get wordpress.. get a free template at least, and use that!

At the moment it looks a little like something out of frontpage..
