Started a new Tech related blog, now what?

I have never had an outright blog before so I really don't know how to go about promoting one.

I literally just registered a domain and made my first post (still working on a design). It will generally be about the web and programming with some web revenue ideas and SEO stuff. Basically whatever I come across I will write about.

I figured I would do some SEO and maybe try to swap some links with other tech blogs but short of that i'm not really sure on what the process is here.

Can anyone offer advice as to what they have done with their blogging projects?

Add some content, then social bookmark your blog. Then you can start writing some articles and submitting them to ezine articles directory. Then you could start exchanging links or banners if you get some traffic.

This is the way I would do it.

Oh, don't forget to create facebook page and twitter account just for that blog and keep updating statuses with links to new posts.

First you need to build your site and then add some decent content. Then approach other blogs and forums and ask people to swap links. It will work. Also you need to participate in tech related blogs/forums and promote your site.

Keep in mind though, there are ton of tech related blog out there... if you want to be successful, I suggest you start looking at niche in the tech sector...

When I first started my blog I made sure I had the design done to the way I liked it.

Then I started pumping out at least one blog post per day. But traffic didn't start rolling in at first so after a few weeks of working on my blog I found that I spent more time promoting my blog than actually writing content. To start promoting my blog I found 15 or 20 blogs in the same niche as mine and read their blogs every single day, commented on most of them every single day and by doing this I started making online buddies with blog owners in the same niche as I was. This was super important for growing my blog because I could always talk to these blog owners and ask them for help, ask for link exchanges, or anything else related to blogging.

Aside from commenting on other blogs I used article marketing to attract a lot of backlinks to my site. I wrote lots of articles and had them all link back to my main blog targeting all the keywords I was after.

I got lots of traffic from social media. I found stumble upon to be the best source of traffic for my blog. SU sent me probably on average about 500 visitors per day with spikes in traffic depending on the content I was writing. I obviously submitted some of my stuff to the other social networking sites like Digg and reddit etc for extra traffic.

So from the traffic I got from the comments I left on other blogs, the traffic from google, the traffic from my articles, and the traffic from social media, I had a good chunk of traffic flowing to my site every single day. Once you get a consistent amount of traffic I think it just gets easier from there to grow your blog. You'll find that random people will start linking to your blog, random people will be submitting your content to social media sites, and you can grow your community a lot easier with more traffic.

    Hope this helps somewhat!

I would take some time to plan out a long term strategy, what exactly do you want from this blog? Do you have a specific tech focus? All the details you can nail down will help make the process a lot easier. Depending on your budget I would head over to fiverr.com after a few weeks of building content for some decent SEO pretty cheap.

Unique content is a must for every website or blog. then you can start thinking about submit to google, bing and other. Generate sitemap for easy crawling. and then you can start do go to social bookmark, forum posting, commenting, submitting article directory. Link exchange can be done later with once you get a few PR since you need to choose a good LE partners.

I would suggest you guest post on other people's blog. Don't worry about giving away content because if no one sees your blog who cares?
There used to be a blogging network that was great for promoting and partnering but unfortunately it no longer has the feature.
