I started wondering about the power of sig links and sig lines, so I did a little experiment on my site.........

I put 1994 lincoln mark viii gold package in my sig on my own site. I previously didnt rank for this KW phrase.........

In 2 weeks time, I rank no. 1..........Not a very competitive kw, I know....

However, I also didnt rank for 1994 Lincoln mark viii - I am now 110th moving up 9889 places.

I plan to keep working on this - but this is a start.

9889 places... it just means you moved from wherever the keyword tracker began at.

Our testing confirms what I guess all would suspect, that the ranking of the forum determines the value of the sig. But not all forums are of value, as some do not even get indexed by G.

What you may find is that you will start sliding down - just like the big experiment and "the control' for that experiment "weber bbqs"

It will be interesting to see....perhaps what you could do is somewhere else [not forum] put similar links and see what happens.

It also shows the power of the more obscure key words.
If you think about it, an obscure keyword searched 2 times a week with you ranked numbre one i sbetter than a common keyword searched 1000 times a day but with ou ranked number 2900.

This is what is known as a KEI analysis developed by Sumantra
    Roy of 1stSearchRanking.com

KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index): Compares the 24Hour
result with the number of competing web pages to pinpoint
exactly which keywords are most effective for your campaign.

In a nutshell: Look for the keywords near the top. The higher
the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less
competition they have. Which means you have a better chance
    of getting to the top.

    Use the following guide:

    0 - 10 Poor keyword to target
    10 - 100 Good keyword to target
100 - 400 Very good keyword to target
    400+ Excellent keyword to target

And as an example here is spanish property:

    Nos Count Predicted Keyword
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1, 184, 193, real estate spain
    2, 175, 184, spanish property

    And here is KEI:

1, 5.571 real estate agent spain
    2, 0.744 real estate spain

Not a good KEI at all - in other words to little traffic and too much competition....so you either become supercool at SEO or target another market :)
