My desktop starts in about 45-60 seconds I guess. As for my very old Acer Travelmate I'm still waiting after turning it on sometime last month.

    Under 1 minute.

Windows XP loads up a lot of crap that you probably don't need. Take a look at what Services to disable that will help speed things up. Take note though, disabling the wrong thing can really screw things up. :(

5-10 seconds??? holy speed of light!

When I first got my LT, maybe 52-58 seconds...now it takes WELL over a minute, maybe more like years

now what are we talking here? from the moment you press the power button until you see the desktop OR what I consider to be more accurate, the point at which the CPU/HD stops spinning and you can actually start doing something

    do a few things,
first of all, go to run ==> type in msconfig, and go to the start up tab, and remove a few things you don't want to start automatically!! this will help!

then, go to run and type ==> cmd, in the command prompt, type "sfc /scannow" and give the windows xp cd! and let the process finish, this will increase your start up time slightly! cheers!:)

Mine is a bit slow now and starts in around 1 minute and 5 seconds but with proper tweaks installed it boots in 27 - 32 seconds.

I already have a prog that helps me remove unnecessary apps from starting and all that but I have no idea as far as MS services go

AND (I assume) like many of the poor souls here, I never got a friggin' CD, XP came pre-loaded...is it going to know where to look if I don't have the CD:confused:

    I think I'm somewhere between 1-2 minutes. I don't shut down often, so I haven't noticed.
